What is wind? Palm trees blowing during a storm. (Thinkstock)
What is wind?
Lexile

You asked us, what exactly is wind and how does it get blown around?

Wind is a major player here on Earth; it sculpts landscapes, brings rain and uproots trees along with lives.

So what's behind this invisible force that can tickle a cheek one second, and topple a building the next?

Good question. Wind is just air moving around, and air is just a bunch of dancing molecules. Gravity pulls down on the molecules and the closer they get to the Earth's surface, the more tightly packed they become.

Air that's under high pressure like that naturally flows to areas of low pressure. The bigger the difference in pressure, the faster the air flows, and that, my fellow geeks, is wind.

But what causes one area to be higher pressure than another? The sun - it heats the Earth's surface unevenly, creating areas with warmer air, which rises, and cooler air that then rushes in.

All of these air movements happen at both local and global scales, and of course, it's all a lot more complicated than all of this, making wind and weather a little bit unpredictable.

Which is why I never leave home without my trusty cape.

Wind is just a bunch of air moving around. And air is just a bunch of dancing molecules, gravity pulls down on the molecules closer to the earths surface. And the closer the the molecules get to the earth the more compact they get. Air thats under high pressure like that naturally flows toward low pressure areas. The bigger the difference in pressure the faster the air flows.

Because if wind can take a tree out of the ground it can also take a person life. Look how big a tree is... Then look how small a person is compared to a tree. If the wind is strong enough it can kill the person.

In order for the wind to uproot a tree or a persons life it's how much pressure. " The bigger the difference in pressure."

That is really cool to know, how wind worlds and all.

Wind is air molecules moving around and can do many things like sculpting landscapes, bringing rain, and uprooting trees along with lives. Air that is under high pressure moves to areas of low pressure. Sometimes, the wind is strong and can cause a lot of damage. The sun causes the warm air to rise and the cool air to rush in.
I think that wind can both uproot a tree and someone's life when it is strong. Sometimes, trees get knocked over and people can die by the storm or falling objects.

This article interested me because I like weather. Wind is very interesting because all it is moving particles.

The wind can uproot a tree by putting a lot of pressure on the tree and making it fall over, it can uproot a persons life by literally taking their life away or making their life change by something happening to them, their family or their home because of wind.

Wind can both uproot a tree and someones life because if wind is strong enough to pull a tree out of the ground it can easily take someones life. Wind can take a persons life because when there is a"difference in pressure, the faster the air flows"causing the wind to become stronger taking out trees, buildings or even people.

My opinion on this article is that I am amazed at the strength of wind and how much damage it can cause.

Wind can uproot a tree and someone's life because, "Wind is just air moving around, and air is just a bunch of dancing molecules. Gravity pulls down on the molecules and the closer they get to the Earth's surface, the more tightly packed they become. Air that's under high pressure like that naturally flows to areas of low pressure. The bigger the difference in pressure, the faster the air flows... " This shows the way air can move and how it scientifically affects the world. For example the wind can be sting enough to pull a tree out of the ground. Wind can also uproot someones life because a fast moving tornado which is just fast moving wind can move houses buildings and destroy them. This can cause someone to be uprooted to a new place to live. My opinion is that wind can be very deadly but also a positive aspect to nature.
