The maker of Barbie has announced it will sell a doll modeled after Ibtihaj Muhammad. She is an American fencer who competed in last year's Olympics. While competing, she wore a hijab.

Mattel Inc. said the doll will be available online next fall. The doll is part of the Barbie "Shero" line. It honors women who break boundaries. Past dolls have included gymnast Gabby Douglas and "Selma" director Ava DuVernay.

"I had so many moments as an athlete, where I didn't feel included. I was often in spaces where there was a lack of representation."

That's what Muhammad said las Monday night at the Glamour Women of the Year gala in New York. "So to be in this moment, as a U.S. Olympian, to have Mattel, such a global brand, diversify their toy line to include a Barbie doll that wears a hijab is very moving to me."

Muhammad is the first American to compete at the Olympics while wearing a hijab. She won a bronze medal in fencing at the 2016 Rio Games.

"There was so much about the doll that was important to me," she said.

"I know as a kid I was bullied for having larger legs, and sport taught me to embrace my body and to love my body and the strength that it could produce. I think that having strong legs helped me win a medal at the Olympic Games, so I wanted my legs to be larger, more athletic legs, toned legs. And I am very into eyeliner, so I wanted a strong-winged cat eye. And Mattel listened to everything, everything even down to the fabric of the hijab.”

The maker of Barbie has announced it will sell a doll modeled after Ibtihaj Muhammad. She is an American fencer who competed in last year's Olympics. This is a great way to show the unity and rights of others. It is to show to people that a Barbie doll isn’t all blonde and beautiful white girls dressed in pretty clothes. Every girl should be honored and respected in whatever they are wearing, no matter what color, race, ethnicity, or beliefs. And they shouldn’t be emabaressed about themselves either.

This article is about Ibtihaj Muhammad having barbie dolls being customized by her! She is an American fencer and competed and played a part in the Olympics last year. The makers of Barbies are making these dolls and basing them on these type of people to honor women who are courageous and who "break boundaries." They customized other barbie dolls by Gabby Douglas and director Ava DuVernay. Ibtihaj is also very honored and excited about this doll because it is wearing a hijab. The hijab is very new to the barbie design and it honors Ibtihaj and her culture. In my opinion, the makers of Barbie creating a barbie doll customized by her is incredible! I love how they are creating different cultural Barbies and not just one kind of Barbie. This really honors different cultures and that to me is incredible!

children learn by playing and toys are the instruments that allow them to discover the world they live in. And this is precisely why they interact with their surroundings thru toys. this was a very cool story

Toys can affect society because of what they look like. I think it's really great they made a doll of Ibithaj because it shows you they can be any race. This has a huge impaction on society because other girls like her can get that doll.

The main idea of this article was about how toys can affect society. Toys are mostly played with by children. Children are our world's young adults, and if our toy companies produce toys with more diversity, there will potentially be less conflict caused by diversity disagreements.

i think it's really important that people are recognized for their accomplishments. This article proves the power of women. I think it was a really good idea to make the Olympic fencing bronze winner a role model.

The main idea of this article is that Ibtihaj Muhammad is the first one in the olympics to wear a hijab while fencing is getting a barbie looked like her. She was an inspiration that Barbie decided to make a barbie after her. This doll will also help kids who play with this doll to be inspired to never give up on your dreams no matter what religion and your beliefs or if you are afraid of what people are going to think of you if u believe something that they don't believe.

This article is inspiring towards other nationalities and their goals. This olympic swimmer has gone through bullies and such, but has embraced herself and made what seemed to be a curse into a gift. She worked hard and is now a role model to others.
