A Maine lobsterman says he and his 14-year-old daughter caught a one-in-two-million crustacean: a blue lobster.

WCSH-TV reports Jay LaPlante of the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company caught the creature in Scarborough on Saturday morning. LaPlante and daughter Meghan were hauling traps when she discovered the bright blue critter.

The story has a happy ending for the lobster. Meghan says she is naming it Skyler and will donate it to the Maine State Aquarium. The aquarium says it has three other blue lobsters and an orange one.

While typical lobsters are often a brown or greenish color, others can be bright red (uncooked), calico, multi-colored, orange and even albino, which is likely the rarest of all lobster shades.

"They're rare, but we still see them every summer," University of Maine Lobster Institute Executive Director Robert C. Bayer told Michael Kuhne of AccuWeather.com. "We see around three to four a year."

Bayer said there is still much unknown about the number of lobsters, but according to some estimates, only one out of two million lobsters is blue.

Critical thinking challenge: Why did Meghan decide to donate the lobster instead of cooking it, eating it or selling it?

A strange blue lobster was caught by a lobsterman and his daughter.
A rare blue lobster between a million. The lobster was caught in Scarborough on Saturday morning.
The lobsterman donated the especial specimen to the Maine State Aquarium. In that aquarium there are 3 blue lobsters and an orange one as well.
These rare lobsters are seen every year from three to four though.

This article called my attention immediately since I love animals and I am really curious about a strange one.
To have one lovable blue, orange or even any rare color in a lobster I think is great due to the difficulty of finding them between a million.
Furthermore, the shiny blue color in the picture of the lobster is marvellous.

I think that she decided to donate the lobster, because of rare and uniqe it was.I think she donated it, because she probably wanted other people to see it to.

Wow! I wish I would have found a blue lobster. I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a blue lobster, but i also think she didn't eat it or sell it because she didn't want to harm it.

I was thinking the same thing that she wanted to donate it because it was rare and unique and that she wanted other people to see it.

She donated probaly so other people get to observe and admire the amazing creature. And she donated the blue lobster because it's rare to alot of people. (I would have donated the lobster to).

Why did Meghan decide to donate the lobster instead of cooking it, eating it or selling it?

She donated the blue lobster because it is a weird and beautiful lobster which people can not see very often. I believe that she wants to show her discover to other people. In my case i would do the same , i dont believe that is a good idea to sell or to eat the lobster because it in one in two million and the world should have the chance to contemplate that stunning blue lobster.

Meghan decided to donate the lobster instead of cooking it, eating it or selling it because since the blue lobster is rare, that they don't want to let it go. You can usually see 3-4 in a year so that's why they would donate the blue lobster to the Maine State Aquarium so you can see them and study them.

I think that blue lobsters are cool but I would rather see an Albino lobster and since they find 3-4 a year. They're not that common.

Meghan decided to give the blue lobster to the aquarium instead of eating it. Why wouldn't she have it for supper with garlic butter? Probably because she was generous and thought other people should see the thing that she found. If I where Meghan I would give it to my Dad for him to cook and eat it. I wonder if the meat is blue, too.

That lobster looks pretty cool and reminds me of a crawdad. I never knew there was a blue lobster before. It's also cool that there is an orange one too.
