Teenage climate activist nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Three Norwegian lawmakers have nominated Greta Thunberg for the Nobel Peace Prize. She is a Swedish teenager. She is an activist. She has become a well-known voice in campaigns against climate change.
Freddy Andre Oevstegaard and two other members of the Socialist Left Party to make a statement. They said they believe "the massive movement Greta has set in motion is a very important peace contribution."
Thunberg is 16. She had encouraged students to skip school to join protests. The protests demanded faster action on climate change. It is a movement that has spread beyond Sweden. It spread to other European nations.
Oevstegaard said "climate threats are perhaps one of the most important contributions to war and conflict." That's what he told the VG newspaper.
Any national lawmaker can nominate somebody for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee doesn't publicly comment on nominations. For 2019, they had to be submitted by Feb. 1.
