Luis Suarez is ready to put his biting days behind him.

The Barcelona striker was officially presented to fans on Tuesday at an event delayed for more than five weeks because of his suspension for biting an opponent at the World Cup.

Suarez said he was ready to "erase" his history of bad behavior and start fresh with the Catalan club.

"I say to all the fans, don't worry, because I won't do that anymore," the former Liverpool striker said.

Suarez sunk his teeth into the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in June, earning him a four-month ban and further damaging his already tarnished reputation. The Court of Arbitration for Sport lessened his penalty last week, allowing him to start practice with Barcelona on Friday and play the final minutes of a friendly on Monday.

The Uruguay forward won't play a competitive match until October.

"The suspension is what it is, and I have to accept it," Suarez said. "After what happened I didn't want to do anything. I was depressed. But while I was with my wife and children I had to accept reality. I asked for forgiveness as I had to do, and now I have to think about the present."

Suarez refused to go into details about what he considered was at the root of his violent behavior. He called it a "private" issue that he was treating with the "appropriate professionals."

But the volatile former Ajax forward did say that after his latest bite he was worried about his career.

"Of course I was worried, but not only about the transfer (to Barcelona), but also about myself, for what I had done. I try to erase it," he said. "The lesson I take from it is personal. I try to forget it."

At 27, Suarez has accumulated three multi-match suspensions for sinking his teeth into an opponent. He has also been suspended for making racist remarks.

Barcelona vice president Jordi Mestre said Suarez cost the club 81 million euros ($108 million). Media reports had said the deal was for about 97 million euros ($129 million). Mestre added that Suarez's buyout clause has been set at 200 million euros ($267 million).

"It hurts not playing for Barcelona but it hurts even more not playing for my country," Suarez said. "I love my country. The fact that I will miss the next Copa America hurts very much. But I have to try and forget it."

I would understand if you would push someone and get a foul called on yourself but biting that's more than a foul that's more like an offense. Suarez should not even be in the league he has done to many racial and harming players.

I don't think that Luis Suarez should be playing. I believe that he should have that punishment and not be able to play with Barcelona no matter what.

I think that Barcelona is keeping Luis Suarez with all his problems because no matter what happened, he's a good player. He's made mistakes that have affected his career, but he got punished for them. In my opinion, what he did during the World Cup, should have suspended him for life. To do something as disgusting as biting someone, just to get a penalty kick or any advantage in the game, is pathetic and it shows lack of character, especially when you do it in front of millions of people. I agree that he is a good player, but even if he says sorry, he'll always be remembered by how dirty he played.

the reason Barcelona keeping Luis Suarez is because of his goal score ,and also he score 31 for Liverpool after coming from suspension and he was the best player in English premier league and also the best player of the year. that is why Barcelona is keeping.

I think he deserves what he got and I think that I would have suspended him for longer than four months I would have suspended him for five month's at the least.

Well I highly doubt that because he has been charged so many times because of biting people even in the world cup costing them to lose a good player its idiotic and stupid that Barcelona keeps him on the team after having so many chances

This article is about Luis Suarez who is a professional soccer player for Barcelona. Luis apparently bit a opponent in the World Cup and he has been suspended until October. This has not been Luis's first incident, he has apparently bit other players as well as the one at the World Cup. He claims to put his bad behavior behind him and start on a clean slate with his new team Barcelona. He has been dealing with professionals to help aid him with his problem. I personally think he should've been suspended for longer because he purposely bit someone and this was not his first offense. Although I think he's an amazing soccer player he must work on his behavior.
