Luis Suarez is ready to put his biting days behind him.

The Barcelona striker was officially presented to fans on Tuesday at an event delayed for more than five weeks because of his suspension for biting an opponent at the World Cup.

Suarez said he was ready to "erase" his history of bad behavior and start fresh with the Catalan club.

"I say to all the fans, don't worry, because I won't do that anymore," the former Liverpool striker said.

Suarez sunk his teeth into the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in June, earning him a four-month ban and further damaging his already tarnished reputation. The Court of Arbitration for Sport lessened his penalty last week, allowing him to start practice with Barcelona on Friday and play the final minutes of a friendly on Monday.

The Uruguay forward won't play a competitive match until October.

"The suspension is what it is, and I have to accept it," Suarez said. "After what happened I didn't want to do anything. I was depressed. But while I was with my wife and children I had to accept reality. I asked for forgiveness as I had to do, and now I have to think about the present."

Suarez refused to go into details about what he considered was at the root of his violent behavior. He called it a "private" issue that he was treating with the "appropriate professionals."

But the volatile former Ajax forward did say that after his latest bite he was worried about his career.

"Of course I was worried, but not only about the transfer (to Barcelona), but also about myself, for what I had done. I try to erase it," he said. "The lesson I take from it is personal. I try to forget it."

At 27, Suarez has accumulated three multi-match suspensions for sinking his teeth into an opponent. He has also been suspended for making racist remarks.

Barcelona vice president Jordi Mestre said Suarez cost the club 81 million euros ($108 million). Media reports had said the deal was for about 97 million euros ($129 million). Mestre added that Suarez's buyout clause has been set at 200 million euros ($267 million).

"It hurts not playing for Barcelona but it hurts even more not playing for my country," Suarez said. "I love my country. The fact that I will miss the next Copa America hurts very much. But I have to try and forget it."

I am disappointed yet I also feel sorry for him. I hope he had plenty of time to think about what he did before he go's into his next competitive game.

If you watch the replay it shows that Suarez was trying to head-but him but the Italian player Chiellini moved and it all went wrong. I personally don't think that Luis Suarez would bite another player in the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

I can understand if you push someone but biting someone seems a little weird, he shouldn't have bit him that's not right he could've just walked away

Luis Suarez is now officially a member of the Barcelona Football Club after being left Liverpool Club.
The only problem is that the player has a prohibition to play. This, because in the last World Cup he sank his teeth in an Italian football player.
Suarez has done this many times before and The Court of Arbitration has given him penalties in those situations.
He is very sorry for the situation and says that he is treating the problem with the professionals. And the only that he must do is to accept the penalties.

I really refuse the bad and strange behaviour of Suarez. If I were part of The Court of Arbitration committee I would be very strict with him as his behaviour has been frequently observed.
It does not matter how good he is at playing soccer since his faults are hard and threatened the other players. He should not even play soccer anymore.

I'm a big fan of soccer, and as I have started watching it I have heard reports of Luis Suarez and his actions. I really hope that he makes better choices going in to a popular team like Barcelona. I really like the way he plays, but he needs to stop making those choices. I hope it goes well for him when he starts play competitive games.

I love soccer it's a great sport. But I don't think soccer was meant to bit humans. Luis Suarez is a great player but this is not very professional.

I know Suarez is a good player but why bite the player in the world cup something probably got on his mind that he didn't want to lose so he got anger and just bit the player for getting in his way for a head-but i hope he can get his mind off it and leave it all behind.

I think Barcelona is still keeping Suarez with all those problems because he is a good forward, and they will probably have him in bench just in case Messi or Neymar get injured, and they will still have a good forward to put in. Just that now Liverpool only has Sturridge as a good forward, and Suarez was Liverpools best player.

    I mean that is horrible.
i feel bad for the whole team, now that they lost a player.
I dont know if he was good or bad but it is bad!!!

In my opinion, I think Suarez shouldn't have been suspended. I think Suarez should have been fined for biting the Italian defender. The reason why Barcelona is keeping Suarez while he is suspended is because Suarez is a really good forward who can score a lot of goals.
