A pizza delivery driver in Marion, Indiana, was shocked to receive a $1,268 tip. It happened right in front of thousands of Indiana Wesleyan University students last week.

Keith Newman, Indiana Wesleyan's CEO of Residential Education, was speaking to about 3,000 students at the IWU Chapel. He wanted to illustrate a point.

"Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone.

So Newman ordered two pizzas from Domino's Pizza at 10 a.m. The cost was $12.50.

When driver James Gilpin arrived at the chapel to deliver the two pizzas, he was escorted into the main hall and onto the stage. There he was met by thousands of students.

He was then presented with the $1,268 tip and inspirational notes from students.

Gilpin said the surprise took a while to sink in, but he will use the money to help with Christmas for his two young children. He said he was already drawing inspiration from the students' notes.

Critical thinking challenge: How does this story demonstrate "Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone?"

That's awesome to spend it on your family and others in need. I would save like 100 or so for my self so if I needed anything I could get it. I would still give some away though.

That's shocking! To earn all that money would be amazing! I don't know where I'm going to work when I'm older, but wherever it is I hope I get that much money just for a tip.

That's so sweet that the students did that! It's also sweet that Gilpin is going to use that money for his children's Christmas gifts, again, so sweet. It's nice to know that there is still *some* good people out there!

I love the idea of students giving and writing the inspirational notes. I think it is amazing that he was drawing inspiration from students' notes. I also think these students should get an A for the day because the students did not have to do this.

I like how the students gave that person all that money. That was very kind of all of them. If I was that pizza delivery guy I would of thanked all of the students one by one.

First of all why did he get such a big tip and what collage. I think this is awesome but who in the right mind do that. I was nice but a lot of money. I thinks it's crazy going to your job delivering pizzas and then get a huge tip. Just amazing!
