A Maine teenager is flustered but not hurt after a photo op with a squirrel went awry.

Seventeen-year-old Brian Genest, of Auburn, said he saw what appeared to be a friendly squirrel on a hand rail while walking through John Chestnut Park near Tampa, Florida. He was on a trip looking at colleges.

Genest took a "selfie" of himself and the squirrel, but the flash and noises from his camera phone scared the animal, which climbed under the teen's shirt and hung onto his back.

"He was just in that spot where my arm can't reach him," Genest said. "I threw myself on the ground and that scared him off."

Genest's mother, Paula Wright, snapped photos of the hoopla, which were originally posted to her son's Instagram feed along with his selfie.

Genest had approached the squirrel making clicking sounds with his tongue to get closer. His mother said the spectacle Saturday taught him a lesson.

"I think he got a little lesson from the squirrel that he's not really its buddy," she said.

She said neither her son nor the squirrel was harmed.

Critical thinking challenge: What was a student from Maine doing in Florida? Why wasnt he in school?

I think tjhe reason he wasnt in school was because he was looking for colleges to go to in the next fall. I do think though he shouldn't have taken a picture with the squrriel because it probably scared him and he thought that the teenager was trying to attack him or something like that.

I think that teens these days should stop taking selfies with everything. Kids and teens like to take selfies with every little organism. Teens will be on the bus and scream or say BUS SELFIE. That is not what teens should be doing wherever they go. It is plain stupid. Someone will be outside and will say GRASS SELFIE. People are messing with animals for a selfie. There are consequences for these selfie action or just for any action!

Wow, I know that taking a picture with a squirrel would be cool but he should have known that every animal will end up attacking you. Even a cat or dog would! That squirrel is cute though.

I guess that the squirrel was infuriated with humans because of that picture and he don't play nice. I used to have a baby squirrel in my grandpas room but the down side it scratched me on my right hand.

The squirrel must not like selfies. Too bad the teenager didn't know. He has been squirrel attacked. I wonder what it is like to be attacked by a squirrel.

A teenager even a kid should know to take the flash off a phone or camera before taking a picture of a wild animal , A flash always makes a wild animal go crazy.
