Meccano Visionary Series - Steven Jobs & Steven Wozniak

Even in their early years, both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, having inquisitive minds and a thirst for innovation, spent days tinkering with tools and toying with ideas that would ultimately lead to their big breakout successes. Jobs specifically spent his childhood watching his father craft anything from a cabinet to a fence, and would, of course, build his own creations and inventions using his own Meccano set, also known as Erector sets in other parts of the world.

In fact, Ben Varadi, the EVP, and chief creative officer of Meccano stated that "Steve Jobs said that his Meccano set influenced his whole career, getting him excited about all the possibilities of what you can build."

'Possibilities' seem to be the keyword for various Meccano sets, as they can range from something simpler like various automobiles aimed at a younger crowd with Meccano Juniors, or even something that would undoubtedly be right up both Jobs' and Wozniak's alley: The Meccanoid robot you can completely build yourself.

Jobs and Wozniak eventually befriended one another in 1971 and eventually worked together at Atari on circuit boards for popular arcade games like Breakout. In 1976, they formed Apple Computer.

Wozniak ended up being the vice president in charge of research and development at Apple, going on to design the Apple I, the first commercially available microcomputer, and eventually the much-improved Apple II, the first computer that displayed color graphics. The Apple II became one the first highly successful mass-produced personal computer.

Of course, both Jobs and Wozniak went on to be extremely successful in their own ways. And even though the world lost an innovator when Steve Jobs died in 2011, his legacy continues and still influences the future of Apple products we see coming out on a yearly basis. And to think it all started when they were just young kids, challenging their minds by creating various inventions using their Meccano sets.
