Face it. If you own a luxury or sports car, whenever you hand the keys to a valet, you imagine the car going on a high-speed joyride like the Ferrari in the 1980s cult movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Now, General Motors has an option on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that takes those worries away.

The latest version of the sports car is due out in September. It has a feature that records where the car goes with a camera mounted in the windshield trim. It also captures audio in the cabin as well as speed, engine revolutions per minute, gear position and G-force. That all helps the car tattle on any valet who doesn't take a slow, direct route to a parking space.

GM says it's the most extensive attempt by an automaker to thwart valet joyriders. But it's not the first. The automotive website Edmunds.com says Hyundai and Mercedes offer "geofencing." That's a feature that sets a perimeter and then notifies the owner's smart phone if a car goes beyond it. Chrysler has a valet mode that caps engine speed and horsepower, while Audi lets owners limit engine speed for valets.

With the Corvette, once the owner activates the feature with a four-digit code, the touch screen tells the driver it's in Valet Mode. But it doesn't warn the valet that he's being recorded. The feature also locks the glove box and a storage compartment in the dashboard and shuts down the infotainment system.

"Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles said in a statement. "Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight."

Data and video from the valet mode can be viewed instantly by the owner on the car's 8-inch color screen when the car is parked. Or it can be downloaded to a computer.

The system could go into more mainstream models if feedback is good on the Corvette, GM spokesman Monte Doran said. The feature is paired with a navigation system and costs $1,795. A 2015 Corvette starts at just under $54,000.

Critical thinking challenge: Why do luxury car owners care how parking valets drive their cars? Have you ever seen Ferris Buellers Day Off?

This car is really cool and is expensive. So I think it is a good idea to protect your valuable car. I also would like to be a valet and speed down the highway with a corvette.

I think this is a good idea to have in your car so you know if your car is getting stolen. You can also find out if the valet damages your car. I bet as more cars have this system the valets will be extra careful. They won't be able to lie about it because you have proof.

This is an amazing feature for the cars. This improves the car so nobody want get aways with stealing it. We'll this is technolgy,so it could mess up and it's not realible all the time. An instresting thing about this is that people are going to want to but more Becuase of the basicailly car stealing catcher. It'd be such a great thing to have and a lot more worthy.

This car is slick and very expensive. I could easily see why the owner would want to monitor where this car goes at all times. If something were to happen to it, he could easily pull up where it has been in the last 24 hrs.

I think that the new 2015 corvette is a good and joyful car. I also think that everyone should get one. So I might have to say that this could be my favorite car.

A Corvette is very fast but it needs to slow down because they might crash or they might hit some one. Also Corvettes will get you a speeding ticket real easy.

I think it would be cool to have all of that for a car. it would be nice except for if you took it to a race track and it locks up.

That is a good idea to have that put into a car to know what happened to your car while some one else is driving.

I think that it was amazing that a new Corvette is coming out in September. One thing that it is amazing is that there is going to be new gadgets which is to capture audio in the cabin as well as speed, engine revolutions per minute, gear position and G-force. I hope that in the future, the Corvette will be a lot cheaper in the future because $54,000 is a lot of money.

Answer: I think that the luxurious car owners care how the parking valets drive their car because it is really expensive. I have also never seen the "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
