Pots and pans and paper airplanes are among the 12 finalists for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

Those humble contenders are up against American Girl dolls, the board game Operation and several return nominees. Those include little green Army men and bubbles.

The other 2014 nominees are Fisher-Price Little People, My Little Pony, Rubik's Cube, Slip 'N Slide, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Toys and the toy trucks sold each holiday shopping season at Hess gas stations.

The hall of fame is at The Strong museum in Rochester, New York. Two winners will be inducted Nov. 6.

Anyone can nominate a toy. A museum advisory committee narrows down the list. Then a national committee of history, toy and education experts votes in the winners.

Inductees have to be widely recognized. They must have proven to be more than a passing fad and foster learning, creativity or discovery through play.

The two winners will join last year's honorees, the rubber duck and chess. Fifty-one other toys have been inducted since the hall was established in 1998.

Other past winners include Etch A Sketch, Play-Doh, Barbie, Mr. Potato Head and the Frisbee.

Items like the cardboard box and stick have also made the hall. That's for inspiring kids to transform them into play things on their own.

Critical thinking challenge: How does the Toy Hall of Fame benefit the city of Rochester, New York? What other reason might you have for visiting Rochester?

This article is about the Toy hall of Fame. Anyone can nominate a toy, then a museum advisory committee narrows down the nominations. The two winners are decided by the national committee of history, toy and education experts. Some of the twelve finalists include pots and pans, paper airplanes, American Girl dolls, the board game Operation, little green Army men, and bubbles. Some past winners are Etch A Sketch, Play-Doh, Barbie, Mr. Potato Head, the frisbee, and some items like the cardboard box and the stick that encourage imagination. I think the Toy Hall of Fame is a good idea because who wouldn't enjoy a museum filled with toys? This will also benefit the city of Rochester because many people will travel there to go to the museum.

I think that it is very inspiring for kids who want to nominate toys they think that is fitting for the hall of fame. I believe that with this, more people would want to see why this toy is so interesting. I think that if I would nominate a toy it would be a chu-chu train (Thomas) because the chu-chu train is one of the most famous thing for younger kids and kids who like collecting trains.

Answer: The Toy of Fame benefits the city of Rochester, New York by persuading people from other places to visit Rochester. Another reason why you might want to go to Rochester might be because you want to nominate a toy as well.

Children's sometimes like to make paper airplane cause it is easy to make because it is made out paper and it is easy to fly it in the air, it could fly inside or outside in the air, so a pot, pan, and paper airplanes are the 12 finalist in the National toy hall of fame in the toy store.

Critical thinking challenge : The toy hall of fame benefit the city of New York to see the toys that are playful to children's so they put it out at the hall.

There is a toy hall of fame in Rochester, New York where two toys a year are being inducted, and the judges are deciding what should go in next. Some contenders are the Rubik's cube, Green army soldiers, and bubbles. This hall of fame has only been around since 1998. The hall of fame consists of many famous toys including the Etch-A-sketch, Play-Doh, and Barbie. The new toys are up against tough competition that are already in the hall of fame. I think the toy hall of fame is a little outrageous because there is so many legendary toys that will make it in. Why does there need to be a toy hall of fame? It doesn't make sense that there is only two nominations a year because there is hundreds of great toys.

The Toy Hall of Fame is in Rochester New York, and two winners will be announced on November 6th. Past toys have ranged from Barbie dolls and Rubick's cubes, to sticks and cardboard boxes. Those last two items won because kids can transform those into whatever they want it to be. Anybody who is widely recognized can enter a toy into this contest, and then a committee decides which toys should be in the hall of fame. Last yeas winners were chess and the rubber duck. I think this is a great museum because anybody can try to submit something, and the cardboard box idea inspires kids to use their imagination. I never knew this was in Rochester, and I have visited that area countless times in my life.

I think that the only toys that should be in there are the classic toys like chess and the bubbles. So I think the girly toys should be taken out because there not old and classic

Several toys join the competition for the toy hall of fame! Some toys include the American Girl Doll, Slip'n slide, and the rubik's cube. The toy hall of fame isn't old either, It has been going on for more than a decade. Past winner have included Etch A sketch, Barbies, Mr. Potato Head, and Play-doh. Also, anything can be put into the contest, and anyone can vote for it. This year twelve finalists have been nominated so far, and will be chosen on the sixth of november this year.
What I think is interesting is the fact that there is a toy hall of fame. I never knew that there was a toy hall of fame, and would like to see some of my favorite toys from when I was younger be nominated.

I would nominate Nerf because that was the toy that i grow up with i never liked super hero's or stuff like that. Critical thinking challenge: How does the Toy Hall of Fame benefit the city of Rochester, New York? What other reason might you have for visiting Rochester? I think it would help N.Y by the stores profits because the parents would want there kids to have the top toy of the year.
