Trix is back to its old tricks. The colorful cereal will once again be made with artificial dyes and flavors. This comes nearly two years after they were removed from the cereal.

Food maker General Mills said Thursday that Classic Trix will return to supermarket shelves. This will happen in October. But it will also continue to sell the version without artificial colors and flavors.

"We heard from many Trix fans that they missed the bright vibrant colors and the nostalgic taste of the classic Trix cereal." That's according to Mike Siemienas. He is a spokesman for Trix. The move was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

General Mills switched to using natural sources for color in early 2016. The sources included turmeric. It also included strawberries and radishes.

The company's hope was that the change would appeal to parents who are becoming more concerned about what ingredients are in their food. The cereal lost its famous neon colors. The blue and green pieces had to go because the company couldn't find natural replacements.

General Mills Inc. said it is also working on bringing back another fan favorite. Trix made in shapes of fruits. It stopped selling those a decade ago to return to round pieces.

The Minneapolis-based company said about 90 percent of its cereals are still made with no artificial flavors or colors. Those cereals include Cheerios. It also includes Cocoa Puffs and Golden Grahams.

I prefer Trix with artificial colors and flavors because it means more sugar!Kids love sugar and if you ask me Trix is loaded. I really love the original artificial colors and flavors. The artificial colors pop out and are many different colors of the rainbow. What kid doesn't like rainbows especially neon rainbows.I'm delighted to hear Trix is going back to artificial.

That is great that the company that made Trix is getting artificial colors and taste for the surreal! Now maybe kids will want to eat it more sense it has artificial colors and taste!

I didn't like Trix that much when they got rid of all those flavors. My least favorite are the purple and there is always in there. Flavors mean that it will mean more people will buy them, and there more delicious. I think that kids at the age of five haven't tasted the flavors yet. I think they did a good choice.
