Authorities in northeast Ohio say a man pretending to be a police officer was caught. Turns out, the driver targeted by his fake traffic stop was a real officer.

Police in North Kingsville say an off-duty Youngstown officer was stopped Aug. 2. The officer was stopped by the alleged impersonator. He was driving a black sport utility vehicle. It had red and blue emergency-style lights.

Village police Chief Hugh Flanigan tells The Star-Beacon newspaper in Ashtabula that the unarmed man was dressed in regular clothes. Flanigan said the man repeatedly tried to convince the Youngstown officer that he was a real lawman. Eventually, the fake cop drove away.

Flanigan says the officer contacted village police. They found the suspect within minutes. A prosecutor says the 42-year-old North Kingsville man faces a misdemeanor charge of impersonating an officer.

In life there are always times to have fun, but also too be serious. Impersonating an officer is not fun, nor a joke, whatsoever. There are many negative possibilities that could have resulted from the suspect's actions. For example, the off duty police officer could have possibly been a fugitive on the run. This crime may be extremely rare, but it could possibly result in the worst results. To make a long story short, the largest harm in "impersonating an officer" maybe losing an "officer".

It really isn't a joke or funny. His little "joke" could have turned bad fast. He should have thought before he did anything.
