Six abandoned kittens named after the kids in "The Brady Bunch" TV series are getting a nurturing boost. It has come from an unlikely source, a male cat with a slight neurological disorder.

The 3-week-old kittens are named Jan, Marcia, Cindy, Greg, Peter and Bobby. They have been adopted by Henry. He is an 8-month-old male cat in the southeast Alaska community of Ketchikan.

"We have Henry playing Alice. It was the perfect match," said Heather Muench, comparing the cat's role to that of the lovable live-in housekeeper on the old TV series.

Muench is a volunteer with the Ketchikan Humane Society. She is caring for the kittens at home after someone put them into a cardboard box and left them on a road on Prince of Wales Island.

Children walking home from school heard the kittens crying. A humane society volunteer living on the island had the kittens flown to Ketchikan.

Muench is providing round-the-clock care, both at her home and at her day job. It is at the Island-to-Island Veterinary Clinic in Ketchikan.

At home, she's getting lots of help from Henry. He is a male cat. She and her husband adopted him from the all-volunteer Ketchikan Humane Society. Henry's disorder affects his coordination. It causes him to walk unevenly and prevents him from jumping.

What he lacks in motor skills is more than compensated by his demeanor.

"He is very, very sweet and gentle. And he has taken a shine to these kittens," Muench said.

Henry spends hours licking the kittens clean. He has become very attached.

Muench takes the kittens to work with her to continue their care during the work day. Taking them away raised Henry's angst.

"I couldn't get them out of the crate fast enough to satisfy him. But he was very, very happy to have them back," she said of her return home from work.

The kittens face an uncertain future. That's because they're too young to be vaccinated. But Muench said Henry's care could be a difference-maker.

"It's kind of unusual for a male cat to take on the role of mother. But he's doing a fabulous job. And he's probably increasing their chances of survival," she said.

Critical thinking challenge: Why were six kittens named after the kids in "The Brady Bunch" instead of some other show?

I think it is a miricale that they found the kittens. Because cats are my favorite type of animal, and plus I don't know why someone would treat them so bad.. They can't do anything, they are harmless, and adorable.

That's very nice of the father, Henry to get to become the parent/guardian of the six kittens. The kittens are named after the show because there were 6 kids.

I wonder if Henry is neutered because my own male cat butters also liked to take care of the kittens while the mother ( her name was shade) is hunting in the field by the house. I Wonder if most male felines are capable of caring for kittens as long as the mother isn't in the picture, Male cats often kill litters of another so as to send the mare into heat. Neutered (un-hostile) cats however are usually indifferent or friendly to kittens. So perhaps simply removing the mother in scent might make them more susceptible to kittens.

Six cats named after the six kids in The Brady Bunch were found in a box on the street by kids who herd them crying. They are being fostered and a male cat named Henry has taken on the parenting role for them. Henry has a condition that affects his coordination, but also makes him more caring toward the kittens.
I think that this story shows that the everyone in the world has the possibility to do good, no matter how incapable they seem.

That is cool that the cat can take the role of a mom. I think that is so sad that someone would abandon kittens because they have feelings to but they are kids so they could probity not be able to survive. I would no matter what take them and feed them.

I think its amazing that males can take the role as mom as this cat did. Its important for kittens to have a role model and it fascinates me that this male cat can take on the role as mom. I love that all the kittens where named after the children in the Brady Bunch. Even with his disorder Henry still manages to care for these feeble kittens.

I don't know why someone would abandon six kittens. If he/she couldn't take care of them then why would he/she even agree to take them. It was a relief that the kittens were found and sent to a place where they were taken care of. A male kitten acted like a mother and took care of the six adorable kittens with all his heart. He missed them when they went to work with Henry. The kittens were very lucky to have been taken care of by such a loving cat.

This is very amazing since this male with a disorder and he still manages to care for six kittens and himself. I love it that there named after the Brady Bunch. I think that the male cat is responsible for caring the six kittens because if the kittens don't have any cats to take care of them, they won't be able to live while they are babies kittens, but I'm glad that the male cat is there to take care of the six kittens. Well if the male cat is responsible to take care of the six kittens, I think that the male cat is perfect to take care of the six kittens.
