A Salvation Army worker in California is being rewarded for his decision to return a bag containing $125,000 that fell from an armored truck.

Joe Cornell told The Fresno Bee that he found the cash Tuesday after a Brinks truck pulled away from a red light in Fresno and left the sack behind.

"I started crying and shaking," Cornell said. "Everything was going through my mind the good devil/bad devil thing. What to do?"

Thoughts of the imminent arrival of his fourth grandchild soon helped him decide.

"I thought, 'What would I want her to think of me?' That made up my mind right there," he said. "I got on my radio and called my boss. 'Hey, I found a bag of money.' "

Cornell, 52, is in a Salvation Army substance-abuse rehabilitation program. His duties for the organization include working on donated trailers.

"I went down there carrying the bag like I was Santa Claus," Cornell said.

Brinks spokesman Ed Cunningham said he isn't sure how the truck lost the money, and he called the incident a security issue.

The company will give Cornell a $5,000 reward and make a separate $5,000 donation to the Salvation Army.

Critical thinking challenge: Why did Joe give the money back? Why did Brinks give Joe a reward?

A Salvation Army working by the name of Joe Cornell found a bag with $125,000 in it. He didn't know what to do with the money. Should he keep it or return it? He decided to return the bag of money and for doing that he got a $5,000 reward and they gave the Salvation Army $5,000. I think that Joe made the right decision on returning the money.

I think that it will be okay to keep that money because you know that saying (finders keepers). I think that having people take that much money is like stealing because you are finding a lot of money and that person who owns it might be really sad.

Joe gave the money back because it was the right thing to do. And if he did get caught for stealing it he could have been in jail. But the major part of the reason he decided to give the bag of money back was because of his imminent arrival of his fourth grandchild and he didn't want for her to think of him in a bad way. Brinks gave Joe a reward for doing the right thing. The same thing goes for the Salvation Army. Instead of keeping the money they turned it in. Brinks could have lost a lot of money over that one mistake.

Yes I would give the money back because I already have a lot of money and I don't need it. A poor person would keep it.

It was better to give the money back. Brinks gave Joe a reward because he gave the money back. He could have kept it. In the end Joe made the right decision.

"I started crying and shaking," Cornell said. "Everything was going through my mind the good devil/bad devil thing. What to do?" I would have did the same thing. I wouldnt want anybody stealing my money, and im sure Joe wouldnt want that happening to him either. so the best thing to do was turn the money in.

He gave back $125,000. If i were him i would NEVER give that money back. I mean, you could do a ton of stuff with that money.

I think it's amazing that the Salvation Army worker returned the money instead of keeping it because i know that a lot of other people would keep it instead. Because it's a huge amount of money.

Well don't you love when people do the right thing. It was probably a very hard decision. How many times do you ever find money laying on the ground? Let alone $125,000!
