Put down the juice box and lace up your sneakers. President Barack Obama is pinch-hitting for Little League.

The president paid a surprise visit Monday to Washington's Friendship Park, where a handful of teams were warming up for the big game. Stepping onto the field in a tie but no jacket, Obama shook hands with the players and posed for photos with each team.

"What's going on people? How's it going?" the president said, before sidling up to a young girl whose arm was in a sling. "Hey, what happened? Were you sliding?"

Shocked parents reached for their smartphones to snap a quick photo, but not all of their kids were as impressed. Some held back, unsure of who Obama was, as their parents tried to lure them back onto the infield to join the president.

"Daddy, let's just play," said one young boy, pulling his father by the hand.

The "pitcher in chief" even got a chance to try out his arm, tossing the ball from near the pitcher's mound to 10-year-old Danny Ringel, who plays for the Tigers.

The White House notes the visit comes before Obama is scheduled to travel to Cooperstown, N.Y., on Thursday to speak at the Baseball Hall of Fame. That visit is focused on boosting U.S. exports, including tourism.

Critical thinking challenge: Why would the president pitch to Little Leaguers? Does this change how you feel about him?

The president would pitch for little leaguers because he's trying to motivate them. This changes how I feel about him; he's nice, compasionnate, generous, and cares about others.

Doing this could change how people think of him. Showing he's really not that bad of a person. It kind of changed how i see him. Doing this with a bunch of little kids in shocking but i mean sad because most of them don't even know who this person is and how much of an honor it would be to meet him.

I think the president pitch to the little leaguers to help them gain their confidence. This shows that at least President Obama wants to makes a difference in the world even though it was a small thing like pitching to the little leaguers. His action doesn't change my mind of him. I know he is a good person and he wants to make a difference in the world.

I think it is really nice that the president of the United States came to some random baseball field and played with the kids. If I were to be on that baseball team it would be an honor to meet President Obama. If I was playing in the game and I saw Obama I would play my heart out and then try to talk go him. If he came to a field everybody would try because it would motivate them. That is why Obama should be watching more kid games.

This could not be done because he was not president until 2008. He warmed up with a little league team. the kids did not know who he was. he was asking questions to people an d kids.

You could not have done this with president Obama because he was not the president in the 1900s. He became president on 2008. He warmed up the little league team right before their game.

This Event couldn't of happened before the year 2000 because Obama is throwing the pitch. He also wasn't elected president until 2008 and reelected in 2012. The only way this could have is if there was a time machine and nobody has invented one, so therefore this event happen after the year 2000.

Obama became president in 2008 which was in the 21st Century and was not in the 1990s. He warmed up with the teams right before the game. He also took pictures and talked to the different team members. He pitched to the catcher (Danny Ringel) from the pitcher's mound.

The only reason that this couldn't of happened before 2000 is because obama because he wasn't president until 2008.But you could if he was your neighbor or relative. So most likely you probably couldn't.
