A New York City subway station has reopened for the first time since it was destroyed in the World Trade Center attack 17 years ago.

Cheers erupted as the first train rolled into the new WTC Cortlandt station at noon Saturday.

The old Cortlandt Street station on the subway system's No. 1 line was buried under the rubble of the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001, but construction of the new station was delayed until the rebuilding of the surrounding towers was well under way.

The new station cost $181 million and features a mosaic that uses words from the Declaration of Independence.

I think the reopening will be beneficial for these reasons, more people in New York would be able to get around places quicker, it would give the unemployed a chance to have a job, and museums could take the rubble of the twin towers and put it in a 9/11 exhibit.

In my opinion, I think that the subway station re-opening will be very beneficial because, the subway station will gain an increased profit and will be seen as a national monument or treasure almost. (such as the washington monument, put-in bay monument, etc..) I think that rising back up from the disastrous events of 9/11 would turn just a small subway station into a piece of history.

It would probably be beneficial to the other subway stations that are crowded most of the time. The other stations would lose some of the people that were in the crowd. People in the crowd would probably be happy that there is less of a wait then before the other station was built.

I think the ways it will be most beneficial is people will be able to use the subway if they live in that general area, will be able to get to work faster than if they walk, use the subway more often, and maybe meet new people.

I think the reopening of the subway station will very beneficial in different ways. The reopening will be most beneficial for transportation reasons so other subways will be less crowded. It will especially be beneficial for people who need to use that subway to get where they need to go.
