What is wind? Palm trees blowing during a storm. (Thinkstock)
What is wind?
Lexile

You asked us, what exactly is wind and how does it get blown around?

Wind is a major player here on Earth; it sculpts landscapes, brings rain and uproots trees along with lives.

A good question is, what's behind this invisible force that can tickle a cheek one second, and topple a building the next?

Wind is just air moving around, and air is just a bunch of dancing molecules. Gravity pulls down on the molecules and the closer they get to the Earth's surface, the more tightly packed they become.

Air that's under high pressure like that naturally flows to areas of low pressure, so the bigger the difference in pressure, the faster the air flows, and that, my fellow geeks, is wind.

But what causes one area to be higher pressure than another? The sun - it heats the Earth's surface unevenly, creating areas with warmer air, which rises, and cooler air that then rushes in.

All of these air movements happen at both local and global scales, and of course, it's all a lot more complicated than all of this, making wind and weather a little bit unpredictable.

Which is why I never leave home without my trusty cape.

In order for the wind to uproot a tree or a person it would determine on how much pressure the wind is applying. The stronger the wind the higher the chance of it being able to uproot a tree or a human.

Air thats under high pressure that flows down creates strong fast winds. so the bigger diffrence in pressure makes the wind strong. thats how it can uproot a tree and someones life.

wind can be gentle and sometimes strong. sometimes even strong enough to uproot a tree or a person.now what this means is wind can sometimes prove fatal.

when gravity pulls down on the molecules the tighter packed they become. High pressure air natrually flows to areas of low pressures.Tthe bigger the diffrence the faster the air flows.

Wind can physically uproot a tree because it is such a strong force that can just lift it out of the ground. However, it can figuratively uproot a person's life by ruining their home and town.

It is very cool to read about wind when I'm not in science class. This is something that is educational but also fun to read.

Wind can uproot a tree by just the strong force of it. It can uproot a persons life by collapsing their house and their belongings or by hurting a loved one.

Wind can uplift both a tree and someone's life because since "Wind is just air moving around, and air is just a bunch of dancing molecules. Gravity pulls down on the molecules and the closer they get to the Earth's surface, the more tightly packed they become," when the tightly packed particles rush in to fill the space left by hotter, less dense air leaving. The air can move at many different speeds, some of which are high enough to uproot someone's life or a tree.

I was not very surprised by this article because wind is a very simple concept and most people know what it is and what caused it.

Wind can uproot a tree by how strong the force of the wind is. The way wind uproot someones life is by the pressure it has and how it can destroy their home.

According to the article "What Is Wind?" wind can both uproot a tree and someone's life. Based on the text wind can be very dangerous or very calm and relaxing. Finally I know that wind can do those things, because it can uproot the tree and slam it into a house which causes a person and force them to move.
