Thousands of female engineers, coders, self-described science nerds and other tech superstars have joined a Twitter campaign to break down stereotypes about what engineers should look like.

As of Aug. 6, more than 75,000 people used the hashtag #ILookLikeAnEngineer to post photos of themselves and promote gender diversity in technology, according to analytics firm Topsy. The campaign started when Isis Anchalee, an engineer at tech startup OneLogin, got an avalanche of attention after her photo appeared in a recruitment ad for her company.

The ad features Anchalee, with long, wavy hair and glasses, smiling in a black T-shirt bearing her company logo. Many people could not believe that an attractive woman could also be an engineer at a tech company and assumed that the company had hired a model for its recruiting efforts.

"I didn't want or ask for any of this attention, but if I can use this to put a spotlight on gender issues in tech I consider that to be at least one win," she wrote in an essay on Medium. As such, she suggested people use #ILookLikeAnEngineer to post photos of themselves and redefine perceptions of what engineers should look like.

From the look of the photos, it's working. And it's not only women. Other traditionally underrepresented groups in tech, such as African-American men, have joined in too, as the campaign grows bigger each minute.

I dont think its important to separate people forn being there selfs. You are born the way you are. It does not mater were u work and what you look like. But it does matter how you feel about it. What i'm saying is so cliche but it is true

I think that you should seperate these two things because that would be bias. Being bias is not fair to the person.that is why you should not judge somebody by the way they or what they do.

It is important to separate how a person looks and what a person does because people can have a job that you would categorize as "nerdy" but their appearance is different. Just like in the article. Isis Anchalee said people thought she was a model, but she is really an engineer. You're not supposed to be stereotypical, so that's why separating a persons looks and their job is important.

It is important to separate how a person looks and what a person does because what a person does is totally different from what a person looks like. What a person does can be unique, skilled and different. They can still do what they want like a girl can pick the career of an engineer.

It is important to separate what a person looks like and what they do because what a person looks like really don't matter because as long as they are doing there job and doing what they are suppose to do it don't matter. This is not the way it was before this is America where we have rights to do things. And a person wants a job when they have a opening it doesn't matter what they look. As long as they have the skill needed to work.

I learned that people used a hashtag with a photo of themselves and one women got on an ad for doing so and writing a medium essay. For doing this, she got lots of attention from people when her photo got in an ad for having a great photo and essay. This was a very great article.

I think that this article means that anyone can be an engineer. When you put your mind to it, you can do amazing things. Even though you are small, pretty, or even big, you can do amazing things. #Ilooklikeanenginere

I think that it doesn't matter whether someone is a male or female, they can still be an engineer. An engineer doesn't need to look like something. Both men and women can be engineers. Sometimes women might not want to be engineers because they are not interested in it or are not comfortable with the environment. Isis Anchalee led the movement of the issue. People were surprised when she was on an engineering ad. It doesn't matter how she looks, she can be an engineer if she wants to.
It is important to separate how a person looks and what a person does because people might think they know all about you. They could judge you. You can act differently than the way you look and it would not be a problem.
