A man is in Hogwarts heaven after his collection of "Harry Potter" memorabilia was named the world's largest.

Menahem Asher Silva Vargas of Mexico City has spent nearly 15 years hoarding all things related to British author J.K. Rowling's young-adult wizard-fantasy series, which spawned eight blockbuster films.

His collection fills two rooms and counts everything from magic wands and toy figurines to Gryffindor scarves and replica Quidditch brooms.

Guinness World Records officially recognized it Monday as the world No. 1, at 3,097 pieces. The old mark was 807.

Silva Vargas said he began with no intent to amass a huge collection. But soon it was like being under a spell.

He laughingly called his obsession both a blessing and a curse: "My salary, my bonuses ... it all ended up here."

Critical thinking challenge: If Menahem wasnt planning on creating such a big collection, how did it happen?

I consider myself to be pretty big Harry Potter fan but this, is crazy! I do, however, this it is really cool and funny that he really didn't plan on collecting all of it and that it just sort of happened. I also think it is really weird that they have a record for the amount of Harry Potter collectors items. Either way I'm sure this makes for a crazy and amazing conversation starter.

I am a fan of Harry Potter to but I would not get this much stuff. It may be cool and all but it is a waste of money.

If Menahem wasn't planning on creating such a big collection, it must have happened on accident. I love Harry Potter but I don't have very many Harry Potter objects I guess you would say. He probably sees something that has to do with Harry Potter and be like "Oh My Gosh! I need this!!"
I mean, it makes since. Way to go Menahem!!

A man from Mexico has been buying products related to J.K. Rowling's best selling book Harry Potter for 15 years.
He said he has spent many salaries and bonuses buying the products, however when he started he did not pretend to create a huge collection, it was like being under a spell.

This Mexican man was affected for a powerful spell that reached almost everybody in the world, Consumerism. This is like an epidemic that infects our minds and control our common sense leading us to spend money that we don't have.
Watch out and don't allow fanaticism to take control of your pocket.

I think that Harry Potter is one of those things that most people can't help but love. Even if it's just the movies or just the books you're still in love with the story. It's one of those things that gives you a sense of joy from just talking about it. I can't blame Menahem for having such a big love for it, although maybe a 3,000 piece collection is a bit overboard.

I don't see I point of this at all... Maybe because I can't stand anything harry potter to begin with. but even if I was there is better things to do with your time then to collect a a bunch of childish toys...

Summary: Menahem Asher Silva Vargas from Mexico City has the biggest Harry Potters collection in the world. He spent almost 15 years hoarding all things related with Harry Potters World. Since the books and movies until toy figurines. He has 2 rooms with all Harry Potters stuffs.
Guinness World Records officially recognized as the world No. 1, at 3,097 pieces. The last mark was 807.
He said that all his salary and bonuses are inverted in this collection.

Opinion: Is incredible how some people spend all their money in doing a collection of their favorites stuffs, such as, T.V series, books, movies, etc. Also is incredible the patience for searching all those stuffs around the world. But sometimes people who are collector, they will get addictive and desperate for getting always the last edition for example a movie, or get the only sample or action figure.

Menahem Asher Silva Vargas, a Mexican man, was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the number one collector of Harry Potter stuff. The last record was 807 pieces against Silva with 3.097 pieces. He mentioned that it was not his intention, but the collection started to be bigger and bigger.
I am a Harry Potter fan, but I have never think about buying or spend money in this kind of things, such as a collection for example. I have always thought that I will never spend money in fool things, because life is made to be moderated, in order to obtain or get things we want, and principally we need. In the case of people who have a lot of money, maybe the can decide to have some luxurious likes or spend the money they want. And that is something that bothers me, the injustice commited by I do not know who. It is simply the fact that while people are diying by hunger in some parts of the world, in other parts of the same world are people getting luxuries, spending the money in unnecessary things.

I love the Harry Potter books and movies so when I saw this article and I needed to read it. I can relate to this article because I got a wand at Harry Potter world in Florida. I think it is cool that he over tripled the previous record. I wouldn't have even guessed that there were that many harry potter objects that were made. I could see how not trying to start a collection turned into this because Harry Potter has a way to get you hooked on to it, just like I got hooked onto the books and movies.
