High-speed train almost as fast as plane

A Japanese maglev that is the fastest passenger train in the world has broken its own speed record.

Operator JR Central said the train reached 375 miles per hour in a test run, surpassing its record of 361 mph set in 2003. The train traveled for just over a mile at a speed exceeding 373 mph.

Japan's high-speed rail services are among the most advanced in the world, with hundreds of trains running each day with minimal delays. However, unlike regular shinkansen or "bullet trains" that run on steel rails, magnetic levitation trains hover above rails, suspended by powerful magnets.

The Maglev Test Line, near Mount Fuji about 50 miles west of Tokyo, is developing technology for use on a 250-mile link that will reduce travel time between Tokyo and Osaka to just over an hour. The current minimum by bullet train is nearly three hours.

The maglev trains, begun as a project of Japan Airlines and the national railways with government support, have undergone decades of testing. Construction of the Tokyo-Osaka link, which is expected to cost more than $76 billion, began in 2014.

The line, which will mostly run under mountains, is due to begin operations in the late 2020s. A similar system operates in Shanghai, linking its airport in the seaside suburbs of Pudong to the city's subway system.

Critical thinking challenge: CTC: Why might it be better to run a train under a mountain than over it?

Bullet train almost as fast as a plane. The text states that the train beat its record of 36mph to 375mph. The text also states that the train went a distance of mile while going 375mph. The evidence from the text suggests that humans are not too far off from have very high speed train travel in the future.

A Japanese train broke its own speed record of 361. The text states that the new record for the train is 375 miles per hour. The text also states that this high speed plane is almost as fast as an airplane. The evidence from the text suggests that its better to run a train under a mountain rather than over it is because running a train up a mountain would take too much power. Running a train under a mountain gives it potential speed to go straight without the hassle of trying to accelerate up a steep mountain.

This train is very fast. This could be very deadly if it were to crash. I would definitely ride this train though. It will get you places faster

Wow! That is one fast train. At 375 MPH, but still pretty far from being as fast as a plane. I did some research and found that a Boeing 747 goes 550-600 MPH when cruising, still 225 MPH off. However, I still I do think it's pretty cool it goes 375 MPH when a normal train's top speed is 150 MPH. The new train is 225 MPH faster, that is just crazy. Also a normal person only walks about 3.1 MPH. So think of a train going 371.9 MPH faster than you are walking. An 60 MPH wind can knock a person over and the train would generate a wind that would be much faster at least 200 MPH stronger so you would probably be knocked off of your feet. Interestingly, a bullet can still surpass a plane or a train at 1,700 MPH. Also the fastest car can drive 269 MPH pretty close to this train and the fastest man can run at 27 MPH.

This sounds really neat! i'd probably be scared to ride it because i'm afraid of roller coasters. I thinks its awesome that it's as fast as plane.

I think its cool that they made a train that goes almost as fast as a plane another cool thing is that it levitates thats awesome for the CTC I think its better because its a lot faster than going over it

Its really cool that it can go as fast as a plain, I would ride the train. It's pretty cool and if it were to get into an accident it would be very bad. Its better to run the train under the mountain over it for safety issues.

This actually freaks me out. Trains are most dangerous than airplanes and the fact that they are being made to out beat airplanes in speed just sounds like a lot of upcoming problems.

I find that this train is very cool, since it can go almost as fast as a plane. It is very impressive that it can go 375 mph. I would love to ride the train and see how it feels like to be going that fast. If there were to be an accident it would at least be a quick death but i think it would make a huge disaster since the train would be going so fast. It is also impressive that they are developing technology that can reduce the travel time from Tokyo to Osaka to a little over an hour, at thee moment the minimum that it takes is almost three hours.

Train technology in asia and in other parts of the world is becoming quite fascinating. The speed at which they travel is becoming amazing. Perhaps the intricacies of land travel does not truly end with the automobile
