Apple's latest product launch will be in a setting that holds a special place in its history, signaling how big this event is for the company.

The Sept. 9 launch is expected to feature a larger iPhone and possibly a computerized watch. It will be in the same Silicon Valley venue where Apple's late co-founder, Steve Jobs, took the wraps off the original Mac computer 30 years ago. That machine was hailed as a major breakthrough that helped bring personal computing to the masses.

These events have become an annual rite since the 2007 release of the iPhone, but this year's may be the most highly anticipated since the iPad came out in 2010.

A "smartwatch" or other wearable technology would mark the company's first foray into a new product category since the iPad came out.

True to its secretive nature, Apple Inc. isn't giving any clues about what's on the Sept. 9 agenda. "Wish we could say more," Apple said in a succinct white invitation mailed Thursday to reporters and others.

Apple watchers expect an iPhone with a larger screen than the 4-inch display on the previous two generations of the device. The iPhone 6 is expected to feature a 4.7-inch screen to make it more competitive with larger smartphones made by Samsung Electronics. There also has been speculation that Apple may release another iPhone model with a 5.5-inch screen.

A bigger-screen iPhone could unleash a surge of sales among Apple fans who own iPhones with smaller displays. Some analysts think Apple could sell at least 70 million units of the iPhone 6 within the first few months after the device hits the market.

Although the iPhone is Apple's biggest moneymaker, much of the intrigue around this year's event surrounds the possibility that the company may release a long-awaited smartwatch that could help monitor people's health and serve as control center for Internet-connected appliances and electronics in the home.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has indicated that he is intrigued with wearable technology devices, but hasn't provided any concrete clues about what the company is working on. Cook has only said he is excited about what Apple's latest inventions, a sentiment echoed by one of his top lieutenants, Eddy Cue, who earlier this year hailed the company's product pipeline as its best in 25 years.

Apple has just been redesigning and adding features to its iPhones, iPads, iPods and Mac since the release of the iPad. This has raised concerns among investors that the company had run out of new ideas after the October 2011 death of Jobs, who served as its chief visionary.

Critical thinking challenge: What does Apple gain by being so secretive?

Something that Apple gains by making the iPhone so secretive is the interest of people. Since people are interested, there will most likely be more sold.

Apple company gains many things by being so secretive. when the other companies tell the world what they are going to do in the future, other companies steal the same idea that the other company had. By Apple being secretive, they don't have to worry about people stealing their ideas.

I think that the apple is a improvement but why does it had to be so secretive. I know they are adding new features to the apple.

I've heard rumor about a new G.P.S shoe that can lead you home from anywhere in the world. You can pre order it online for about 1400 dollars.

According to the text, Apple is launching the Iphone 6 on September 9th, 2014. This Iphone has a 4.7 screen display and comes with a computer watch to go with it. I have the Iphone 5C in pink/coral and I thought that my phone was cool. The Iphone 6 is even better than other other Iphone. also on the Iphone 6 there is new software called IOS 8. my phone has IOS 7 and it is pretty nice. I hope that when IOS 8 comes out I will be able to get it on my phone. It is more advanced than any other Iphone. I hope that someday soon I will be able to get the new and improved Iphone 6.

I wonder what will happen on the expected date. Today is the 9th of September and that makes me wonder about the possibilities. Why would Apple release something big if no one knows about it? Usually, there is a long line that awaits outside of stores when there's an Apple product coming out even a couple days away.

I think that apple is being so secretive because other major phone selling companies such as Samsung, could possibly steal some ideas from this innovation. Since they are being so secretive, people want to find out more and eventually buy a phone worth a thousand dollars. Now that the Iphone 6 is out, other Iphones such as the 5, will cost less. In my opinion, the Iphone 6 is to tech-ish and is too complicated. I would not spend one thousand dollars on a Iphone 6, knowing that eventually they'll come out with a seven. Meaning, the Iphone 6 would cost less in the future..

I can't wait to see the new iPhone six. Hopefully it is not to big, because I am not a huge fan of huge phones. The Apple company will gain more customers that will want to buy the new phone by the Apple Company being so secretive. If the Apple company has more customers to buy the new watch and new iPhone, then Apple will get more money for their creations. Hopefully Apple never runs out of new ideas for their iPods, iPads, iPhones, and Macs because I want to see what Apple has in store for us in the future.

According to the text, the IPhone 6, launches on September 9 with a 4.7 inch screen. I think that this will be beneficial to have a bigger screen so people using their phone, can read the words better and see what they're doing. I don't think that Apple shouldn't be so secretive about the IPhone 6 because it has been a long awaiting phone. I hope that since it's a new phone, that it doesn't have a lot of glitches. I have the IPhone 4 and I have been waiting for the IPhone 6 to come out to get a new phone. According to the text, Apple could sell at least 70 million units of the IPhone 6 in the first couple of months after it hits store shelves. I think this is true because there are so many people that like Apple and will buy every single item they make. I hope they release the smartwatch soon because I want to see what it's like.
