Bryce Harper, the Washington Nationals slugger known for launching long home runs, thrilled a fan at a recent game, gesturing for her cellphone, snapping a playful selfie and then tossing it back into the stands.

Harper took the picture in right field before Washington took on the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a doubleheader.

"It was pretty good," Harper told The Associated Press when he saw the photo after the game. "Just messing around a little bit with the fans, enjoying it with them a little bit. It's always fun."

The 22-year-old outfielder was looking at a group of fans taking pictures of him from their Nationals Park seats when he noticed Jamie Roach. Harper motioned for the retail manager from Laurel, Maryland, to flip him her phone from about 15 feet above, and when she did, he caught it.

Harper took a wide-eyed, silly faced picture of himself and threw the phone back to her.

"I was so excited, I've never gotten a ball from him, but now I've got this picture," Roach said. "It was very awesome, like a kid in a candy store."

Roach, who said she goes to about 40 games a year, quickly sent the picture to friends and strangers at the game and the selfie was uploaded to social media sites.

The latest All-Star voting results released by Major League Baseball showed Harper leading all National League players with more than 2.3 million votes.

Forget about a picture being worth 1,000 words, but expect this one to be worth oodles of extra votes and fans.

"They were trying to take a selfie with me," Harper told the AP. "I went over there and said, 'Hey, toss me the phone and I'll do it for you.'"

Harper had two hits in the game and ranks among the major league leaders in homers, runs batted in and batting average.

I think Bryce fosters a relationship with the fans, because he thinks about the time he was in that/their position. He also wants to show all the fans that he can have a little fun with them, and let them know he appreciates them. Harper probably wanted to entertain the fans for always supporting, and always coming to the game and cheering them on. It showed the lady that just because she never gotten a ball and have attended more then 20 games .... there is still hope! so overall he fosters the fans because he truly and dearly appreciates the fans help and loyalty.

I really love how some celebrities are doing things like this to get closer to their fans. Imagine how awesome it would be if your favorite star took a selfie on your phone! I guess it would be kind of like getting an autograph. You would probably feel much closer to them, and respect them more. I've seen a couple of posts and videos online of singers in bands taking a fan's video camera and recording themselves from the stage, and celebrities photobombing normal people's selfies. I think that taking a selfie on a fan's phone is a great way to make them feel more special.

He wants his team to get a better fan base. He wants himself to have a good fan respect. If he does this maybe more people would want to get front seat tickets.

I think it is cool that he wants to get a bigger fan base by interacting with the fans of his team. I also think it gets good publicity.
