The traditional green slime flowed at the Kids' Choice Awards, but it was Angelina Jolie's message of empowerment for youngsters that stuck.

Jolie, who has sought to inspire women with public candor about her own health, said that "different is good" as she accepted the favorite villain award for her movie role as the title character in "Maleficent."

When she was young, Jolie said, "I was told I was different. And I felt out of place: too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in."

"When someone tells you that you are different, smile and hold your head up and be proud," she said, then added with a wink, "cause a little trouble. It's good for you."

The actress and filmmaker, who just recently disclosed that she had undergone additional surgery aimed at preventing cancer, received excited hugs from daughters Shiloh and Zahara when her name was announced.

Other winners at the Nickelodeon channel's fan-voted awards included Emma Stone, who largely escaped its trademark slime when she accepted the best actress award for her role in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and favorite family TV show "Modern Family," whose stars including Jesse Tyler Ferguson didn't get away clean.

Nick Jonas hosted the ceremony, which also honored the group Fifth Harmony as favorite new artist and Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" as favorite action stars. The film was voted favorite movie.

Jonas won as favorite male singer but also ended up drenched in the ceremony's trademark green slime, as did Josh Gad ("Frozen," Broadway's "Book of Mormon"), who got slimed by co-presenter Adam Sandler.

Performers included Iggy Azalea with Jennifer Hudson and 5 Seconds of Summer, which ended up taking a goo hit.

Jonas opened the ceremony by noting that One Direction was minus a group member with the exit of Zayn Malik.

"A tough week. ... Lot of girls in the house tonight still struggling after One Direction became Two Direction," he said, then asked, jokingly, "What's next? Fourth Harmony? 3 Seconds of Summer? No, no. The Jonas Brother?"

One Direction didn't appear to accept its trophy as favorite music group.

Others taking part in the ceremony included Jamie Foxx, Meghan Trainor, Chris Rock, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Kevin James and Little League Baseball sensation Mo'ne Davis.

Jolie, recently writing in the New York Times, revealed that she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in hopes of reducing her risk of cancer.

Two years ago, she disclosed that she carries a defective breast cancer gene that puts her at high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Her mother died of ovarian cancer and her maternal grandmother also had ovarian cancer strong evidence of an inherited, genetic risk that led Jolie to have her healthy breasts removed to try to avoid the same fate.

All the time different is good sometimes. If you are different than everyone that makes it good. It mean you are your own , you are different, unique than everyone else.

being different is very good because if you try to be like some else then your're not being true to yourself your being a fraud by nt being yourself so be different if you want and be proud that you can call yourself different and not the same as everybody else as i call it "basic"

Different is good because everyone wants to be the same instead of the odd one out. When your different you do different things and dress differently. The story of the ugly duckling is an example of being different . Different is a good and although people may look at you weird and talk but some of them wants to be just like you but don't want to talked about so they rather stick with everyone.

Being different is important because why would you want to be like everybody else? Everyone is different but some just don't want to show it when they should, don't listen to anything that people say because they just want to be you. Text states "When she was young, Jolie said, "I was told I was different. And I felt out of place: too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in"." Text also states "When someone tells you that you are different, smile and hold your head up and be proud" Always keep your head up and always be you.

Being "different" can be "good" because you are unique among the others, probably your uniqueness can make a change the way our society perceive at life itself.

Being different in many ways is actually really good. When your being yourself and being different that means your not being like someone else. Its nice when people act like there self's so we don't have people competing with each other who is better than who.

I love the actress Jolie and she did a really good job at presenting the speech. She's right at that speech cause many kids try to be like other and copy their form of style and not be original. She recently went to surgery and the way she recovered from it and gave a inspiring speech amazes me.

Different can be good. The text states, "hold your head up and be proud." Meaning that it's something to be proud of and show off. The text also states, "cause a little trouble. It's good for you." Meaning it's good to be different and do things how people normally wouldn't. The evidence from the text clarifies that different can be good.

Different is good because if everybody was the same, it'd be so boring. I know kids hear this a million times in their childhood from parents and teachers, but I think it makes more of an impact when it comes from celebrities. For some reason in our society, they are put on a pedestal and every word they say is the truth to some people. This being said, maybe those people will actually starting believing that being different is okay and stop wanting to be like everyone else (the celeb they put on the pedestal).
