These are the salad days of scientific research on the International Space Station. Astronauts munched on red romaine lettuce. It was the first time this happened. It took place on August 10. They had grown the lettuce in space.

Three astronauts tasted the lettuce. This was after they clicked the lettuce leaves like wine glasses. They added a bit of Italian balsamic vinegar. They also tossed in some extra-virgin olive oil.

Astronaut Kjell Lindgren said it was awesome. And Scott Kelly said it was like arugula. They talked about how the veggies added color to life in space.

Astronauts will need to grow their own food. That is if they want to go farther in space. This was an experiment to test that.

Astronauts grew space station lettuce last year. But they had to ship it back to Earth. It had to be tested. They didn't get to taste it.

It is difficult to grow vegetables in space because many vegetables can grow in environment. It can't grow in space there is no water.

It is very difficult to grow vegetables in space because
many vegetables need oxygen, water and sun shine to be grown but in the space, it doesn't have any gravity to control air and water.

It is difficult to grow vegetables in the space. This is because in the space there is no gravity, no air, no water and no soil. As there is no gravity, plants cannot have gravitational pull and so there is no way transpiration stream can be carried out by plants. Due to the lack of air, water and soil, plants cannot get their essential things. Although there is direct sunlight, it is not filtered by an atmosphere so it may not be suitable for plants. Despite all these difficult things, scientists succeeded in growing plants in the space!!!! That is really AWESOME.

It is difficult to grow vegetable in space because there is no soil, no water, no air and no light. Therefore vegetable can't be grow. For example, you can experiment some plant into your house and in your backyard. There you will find the result. If the Astronauts could plant the vegetable in the space, I'm sure it doesn't fresh and it can not provide for your health.

It is difficult to grow vegetables in space because there is no oxygen and water. If the vegetables don't get sunlight, there is no chance to grow in space.

I think that it is coo though that astronauts had actually grow food in space because astronauts had never grown anything in space but some scientists have made a container that can grow stuff inside the container. The red lettuce might have been successful of growing inside the container that might have helped the red lettuce to grow while astronauts are in space.
