A woman has spent more than $35,000 to find her missing dog. The search has lasted more than a year.

Janet Mihalyfi, 39, lives in the Georgetown section of Washington. She has hired psychics and private investigators. She has posted thousands of fliers. She has installed cameras in the woods. And she has put out dog food at spots where her Rottweiler mix has reportedly been spotted.

Mihalyfi lost 5-year-old Havoc on Nov. 9, 2013. That was after she took him and her other dog off their leashes in a wooded area. Just then, a deer bolted by. Both dogs gave chase.

She hasn't seen Havoc since.

"Anybody that has a pet knows that they are a family member," Mihalyfi said. "I love him as I would anybody that I'm close with. I can't give up on him."

Mihalyfi is an information technology director at a Washington consulting firm. She said she has devoted every weekend to the search. She described it as exhausting and depressing.

Mihalyfi still hopes to find Havoc. The dog has an implanted identifying microchip. Mihalyfi is constantly boosted by tips from people. She estimates that about 30 to 40 percent of the tips have been accurate. She believes Havoc is spending his days in two wooded parks. But the parks are thousands of square miles large.

The dog owner also has received some criticism. Some feel she has spent too much money searching for the dog.

"I know people are in shock by the number," she said.

She said she can't imagine a better way to spend her money. After all, she wants to get a member of her family back.

I wouldn't do that but that is so cute! I don't have a dog or any kind of pet, but if I did, I would be so sad if he or she was lost. I mean, it's like it's your family. You love it. You take care of it. And it also loves you and makes you happy when you are sad. I would hate to lose a pet. But I wouldn't spend $35,000 for a lost dog. Or any kind of pet. It's kind of harsh to say this, but it's kind of not worth it. Plus, you can just get a new one for $1,000. And that's still alot to me!

I know that a dog is like a family member but I would never spend over 35,000 dollars for a lost dog. but I do really love my dog alot so I would spend a little money if my dog was lost.

I would spend as much money as I had, why would you just forget about a family member .Even it is a dog you all get attached to animal and it becomes family you give it so much love and care and time it is a family member.

I think that it is not good to spend $35,000 for searching for a lost dog, if I spent all $35,000, I would have no money right now. Well, if the women should have saved up her money before she lost her dog, she wouldn't have no money if she saved up her money. But if I had lost my dog and I spent $35,000 for searching for my dog, I would save my money up if I have less money in my account, but its actually kind of amazing for the owner to spend $35,000 for searching for her lost dog.
