You asked us if quicksand is real.
Yes. Quicksand is very real.
Is it like this?
Well . . . maybe.
Quicksand is mostly a mixture of two things. It is sand and water.
That is why quicksand is often found near riverbanks or beaches.
Sand is normally packed together pretty tight. That is why it can hold your weight.
That changes if the sand gets flooded with water. All of the grains loosen up. And boom! You start sinking.
But not like in the movies. You will not actually disappear under the quicksand.
Your body will move an equal amount of water. And then it will stop sinking.
It will depend on your size and weight. You may sink to your knees. Or maybe to your waist.
Now you have pushed out all that water. And the sand is packed around you. You are stuck. Really stuck.
But do not panic. Really. Do not panic. Panicky people flail around a lot. That will make you sink even deeper.
Keep calm instead. And try to lie back. This spreads your weight more evenly. This helps you sink less.
Wiggle your legs if you can. See if you can create a space for the water to seep back in. This should loosen the sand.
This could take a very long time. The best idea is to get help.
Scream out loud. Post a silly selfie. Be sure to tell your friends quicksand is real. That is after you have been saved.
