A park went to the dogs in a grand way on Saturday. It held a Halloween dog parade. It was said to be the nation's largest. It had hundreds of dogs. They let their owners dress them in costumes.

Thousands of people watched. They mingled with nearly 300 four-legged contestants around a stage in Manhattan's Tompkins Square Park. Every imaginable breed was paraded one by one to preen before judges. They were hoping for a Best in Show award at the 25th annual event. It raises money for the park's dog run.

Manhattan resident Robert Krzywicki watched dozens of people sneak photos of his dachshund, Daisy Mae. She was dressed from head to tail in a Stegosaurus dinosaur suit.

"For the day, she was like a movie star," he said.

The prize was won by some Dallas contestants. They got into the Halloween spirit with a Day of the Dead-themed presentation. It included two Chihuahuas and a Yorkshire terrier. Last year, a doggy version of Rose and Jack from the movie "Titanic" took the title.

There were all types of dinosaurs this year. Maybe they were taking on the excitement made by the new "Jurassic World" film. There were also dogs posing as an alligator and a dragon. There was a dog dressed as a fisherman. And there were characters from "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Flintstones." One dog was with a woman wearing a nun's habit. The dog was dressed as Pope Francis.

Some of the dogs' costumes were outdone only by those of their owners.

Bronx resident Andrea Pagan was dressed as Wonder Woman. So was her Boston terrier guide dog, Imani. Imani is a bit of a hero in real life. Imani protects Pagan from potential accidents resulting from disabilities.

Danielle Williams was there to watch. She's from Port Chester. She walked excitedly by dozens of colorfully costumed dogs. She said she wanted to pet them all.

"I want to scoop them and love them," she said.

More than 275 dogs were not barking up the wrong tree in the park surrounded by dog lovers. They mostly were not barking at all. This was no surprise to Krzywicki. He watched Daisy Mae shy away from the affection of strangers. He suggested stage fright had set in.

"She is pretending she does not know me," Krzywicki said. "She is saying, 'Help! Somebody adopt me! Look what he made me do!'"

The owners put there dogs in costumes because they think that's funny. They also think that its cute for them to be dressed up. And since its dogs instead of people they can make really creative costumes.

I think people put their dogs in costumes, because they may wont their dogs to dress up for Halloween this year. Also people may dress up their dogs an go to a Halloween party, an may do a contest who dogs dressed the best. most people do it for fun sometimes or they probably didn't have nothing to scare the kids so they probably just got their dog a outfit for Halloween, then the kids might think that really something or get scared or something.

Peole dress their dogs in comstumes because they wanted their dogs to feel like an real person in the parade. Some owners like to dress their dogs because they like to take pictures of their dogs and make them look cute! Other dogs go trick or treating with kids with disablilties, so to make things look cute they dress them to look like an charater that matches the child's costume.

People put their dogs in costumes because they want to win the contest at the park... Some dogs don't like being in costumes, but others do...

I think people put there dogs in costumes because it's a good cause to raise money for the park's dog run. They also could do it for amusement.I thinks its a good idea to have a parade for dogs to raise money for something important to other people.

I think that some people put their dogs in costumes because they want the money. I also think that most people who put their dogs in costumes do it because its fun, and sometimes its funny.
