You asked us, does lightning ever strike twice?

The old saying lightning never strikes twice is supposed to be reassuring. Well. You had this one stroke of really bad, bizarre luck. But that means the odds of it ever happening again must be zero, right?

Wrong.

Very, very wrong.

Lightning strikes the Earth about 50 times a second. It can strike twice or even three times or hundreds of times in the same place. Take the Empire State Building for example. Its in New York and gets hit about 25 times a year.

And as for people? Just be really glad you're not Roy Sullivan. Poor Roy was a park ranger at Shenandoah National Park. He was struck by lightning seven times in his lifetime.

Here's a real buzz kill for you. In the US, more people are killed by lightning than tornadoes and hurricanes put together. Seriously.

There is a saying that says, 'lightning never strikes twice.' Well, it does. Lightning can strike the same area hundreds of times. The Empire State building gets stroke about 25 times a year. A man named Roy Sullivan has been struck by lightning seven times in his life. More people are killed by lightning, more than tornadoes and hurricanes.

We don't see lightning more often because it can strike twice or even three times or hundreds of times in the same place. It's so fast you can't tell.

We don't see it because the lightning goes so fast when it strikes Earth.

We don't see it because it strikes in different places.

We don't see lightning more often because usually lightning appears in a storm or just heat lightning. Also it is happening all over the world so we can't see every single time there is lightning striking. This is a reason why I believe we do not see lightning more often.

We don't see the lighting all the time because it strikes the earth too fast.
