Would you put a microchip in your dog?

Would you put a microchip in your dog? British dog owners may be forced to microchip their pets and take out insurance, part of a proposed crackdown on the country's dangerous canines.

The government's proposals are aimed at tackling the growing problem of aggressive canines being used to harass people. In a country where guns are tightly controlled and even carrying a kitchen knife can result in a prison sentence, animal rights experts and politicians say street thugs have turned to dangerous-looking dogs to threaten their victims.

Home Office Secretary Alan Johnson said there was "no doubt that some people breed and keep dogs for the sole purpose of intimidating others."

His proposals were largely welcomed by animal welfare groups, including the British SPCA, which said it had long supported chipping — primarily as a means of reuniting lost pets with their owners. The devices are described as "tiny microchips, about the size of a grain of rice, painlessly inserted into the back of the dog."

The chips are easily readable by scanners used by dog wardens and veterinarians.

A host of European countries — including Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Italy and Portugal — have introduced mandatory microchipping rules in the past few years, with nary a raised eyebrow. France requires that some breeds either be chipped or tattooed. Even in countries where the practice isn't required, cities such as Berlin and Prague demand that dog owners chip their pets.

I think that it's a good idea to get your dog chipped! I have a dog and we got him chipped the only thing bad about it is that he squeled really load so it must really hurt! But anyway it aslo makes it so if you lose your dog you can find it easier and if you release your dog on purpose it keeps you from doing that because whoever scans their chip will just give your dog back! And then there won't be as many stranded dogs and homeless dogs to worry about!...

I think it is a good idea to chip your dogs because if they get lost you can find them. It doesn't hurt the dogs, even if you think it does.

What person puts a microchip on a dog? That doesn't make any sense because no person in the world put a microchip on a dog. If I had a dog I wouldn't do that because it would be weird. I think I know why they would put a microchip on a british dog, I think it has it inside because if they people own a dog and if they can find it, they can just track the location of the dog.

Making chipping mandatory is a great decision. I have two dogs and they are both chipped. If all dogs had one of these microchips it would save a lot of people from heart ache over a lost pet. It's also great for the use of preventing dogs from becoming a "weapon". Chipping animals is a smart way to stop the loss of our pets lives.

That's a good idea. If you lose your dog you know exactly were it is. If you lose your dog you would usually have to ask for an award or something. But if you have a microchip in your dog you know were it is. If your dog gets stolen you would know who took it.

Just because it looks scary doesn't mean it is scary. The chip is painless. My dog got one when he was a baby and now hes 7 years old and perfectly fine. Hes train to run away a lot because he likes to go outside and were not sure how to train him. Although it seems harm full its not.

I think it's just cruel to put that on your dog. Buy him or her a collar with their name engraved in it. That's all you need for him or her. I think it would bother the dog anyway. Besides its more simple anyway to buy him or her a collar. A microchip to track their every move? That's a little to over-protective.

I would put microchips in my dogs because one day we put my Nana's dogs in the backyard and we went to let them in and one of them were.we searched the whole neighborhood and then we found out that he was stolen out owner yard and too ken to the pound and he was a big baby so when we left him there because he had to get fixed or we would have to pay $500 to get him and we ended up paying $150 because we put a microchip in him it coasted $50.

I think it's very smart to micro-chip your dog. Although it sounds really gross, it will most likely fix a broken heart. How many stories are you hearing about pets who have been lost, and then found, because they had a micro-chip? I would definitely not consider this if it's uncomfortable for the animal, and if it hurts them, but like the article says, it's painless, and the size of a rice grain. That is not very big!! I know some people might not want to do this, because it's stupid, but honestly, how bad would you feel if you lost a pet, and if only you had micro-chipped it, you might have had a chance. I would never, ever want to hurt an animal, but I think that this is a great idea, which can save an animal's life, and it's not going to hurt them one bit! Technology is huge now a days, and I think we should be grateful, that this is possible! <3

I would totally but a microchip in my dog. My dog has a microchip. I like to now if he gets lost there a bigger chance of finding him.
