U.K. man says he plans to make the first round-the-world trip in a customized rotorcraft known as an autogyro.
Norman Surplus says he hopes to kick off his 27,000 mile circumnavigation from the seaside town of Larne in Northern Ireland.
The Switzerland-based World Air Sports Federation says it has no record of anyone flying around the world in an autogyro, a helicopter-like craft equipped with a rotor and a propeller.
On Thursday, Surplus showed off his small yellow, open cockpit craft before the trip, which is expected to take him through 26 countries, including France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Taiwan, Japan, the United States and Canada.

Not at all, that thing looks like a death trap. i would not even go near it. But to stay in that thing long enough to go around the world in it.
NO WAY JOSE! I wouldn't risk my life for that. I bet the autogyro will end up at the bottom of the ocean. Why would he risk doing that? He must be insane in the membrane!! If the trip was in a jet plane, I would DEFINITELY go! A trip around he world itself seems like it would be an interesting adventure, and perhaps a lot of fun and a little scary as well. A trip around the world on a autogyro just seems just plain dangerous. Good luck Mr. Surplus, I hope you have a lot of fun adventures on your trip I am sure it will be an amazing time, but for now I will stay on solid ground.
That is totally insane! What kind of person would risk their lives flying around the world in...that?! How is he supposed to fly in that little yellow helicopter/plane? Though if he were going to fly the world that would be fun. I would really want to go to see and travel throughout the globe in 27 countries.That would be really fun! Hope he has enough food and water though. I eat a lot. but it looks very fun.
but again you never know if it would fall apart so no i would not ride around the world in that. I would if the plane was in good shape and if it is not in good shape i would tell him to fly around in the plane before i even got in the it.
would you fly with this man I wouldnt go on a ride with him because it probaly would crash in four miles or more and it might not be tested to fly by the air craft company but it would be cool to fly around the world but in a different helicopter
I would like to go on but around the world. The man is crazy. The craft is like a small version of a helicopter. The man is going by himself.
I think that it would be an adventure to fly around the world. But I definitely wouldn't attempt it in a vehicle that wasn't 100% sure to make the trip.
It looks like he is going to fall of. It would be scary to fly that long I would get to bord and hungry.And how would he sleep up there and how would I sleep up there with all that nose from flying in that helicopter.
To be honest... I would love to travel all around the world with him. It really matters what kind of a person he is. If he is a nice getting along with people kinda guy then yea I would love to go. If he is a snotty mean selfish kinda guy then no way... he can count me out of it.
I would want to. I don't like flying though. I get sick easily. Plane's just are a calming thing, when your on the ground. That's pretty cool.
Of course I would! Then I could say that I'm the first kid around the world! I would probably get some fame too. Plus I would get to see all the wonders of the world. That would be awesome.
