Would fire ants stop you from playing football? Football games have been postponed by heavy rains, lightning, power outages: and now, fire ants.

A game in South Carolina was postponed Friday after the referee decided the field was unplayable because of fire ants. Referee Steve Hook says he found 15 to 20 large active fire ant mounds shortly before the game.

Hook says he was worried about players, coaches and officials. Bruce Hulion with the South Carolina High School League says officials properly handled the safety issue.

The home team, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, tried digging up the ant piles and pouring salt on them before the game was postponed. One fan offered to bring fire-ant poison.

The field was deemed ready Monday night. Calhoun County beat the home team 19-8.

I think the referee made the right decision to postpone the game because fire ants are very dangerous and can cause pain. Some fire ant bites can even kill you.

Comment: That is crazy, 15 to twenty fire ants. Imagine you playing and you get tackled and all the ants crawled onto to you and started biting you. That would be crazy. You would have bites all over.

sports: fire ants can not stop you but it was good that a fan offered himself to bring fire-ant poison that was nice of his part guess he didn't want to miss a game .

I would not play football if there were fire ants on the feild if someone payed me money to. It may seem overkill, but honestly, you get three hours of gameplay at the least. It is very likely to get bitten by one, and it hurts. And if there is 15-20 hills, with about 45 in each hill, it would be a dangeorusly high chance of being bitten.

I think that this is stupid. I think that this is stupid because that football is important to me. Also that i would get mad if they my reffs canceled my game. But i'm glad that never happen. if this ever happen a lot of people would get mad.

How could fire ants stop you from playing football? Fire ants could not stop you at playing football. I like fire ants because they are awesome little guys.

I think that it would work either way. I understand that football is a tough sport, but that doesn't mean you need to get hurt in it. Fire ants also hurt badly when when they bite you, and large mounds of them would hold hundreds cause a lot of pain if provoked.

Ive never heard of anything like that before that a game would have to be cancled because there were fire aunt hills on the playing feild.

Sports:Wow! I think fire ant could stop you from playing football.You have to run in football and what if they bite your leg.Thats why they could stop you.
