Helicopter makes emergency landing at school Authorities say a helicopter encountered mechanical problems before making an emergency landing at an elementary school playground in a Modesto, Calif., neighborhood.

Neighborhood resident Susanna Ballard said the helicopter was shaking badly as it flew over Sunday morning, and that she thought it was going to crash.

The aircraft had fueled at the Modesto Airport and managed to land safely in a grassy area at El Vista Elementary School after nearly hitting trees and a soccer goal. No one was injured.

Battalion Chief Hugo Patino says the two-seat helicopter made a hard landing following apparent mechanical failure.

The pilot, who didn't give his full name, told the Bee the helicopter started having problems at 800 feet and he had no other safe place to land.

That happened at my school one. the landing was a lot more controlled though. they has to land the helicopter so they could airlift someone.

That would be so fun, maybe we could get out of school early if someone landed a helicopter at my school. Its better to land at a school rather than crash.

Poor kids were probably scared out of their minds. I mean i would be too if a helicopter landed on the field at my school!!! Luckly no one got hurt.

That would be kind of scary for little kids. Think about it if a life light helicopter landed while your teacher is teaching. Little kids could of been outside playing and got hit.

i think that it wasnt a good idea, but theres things that sometimes people have to do, and this was probably one of them. at least no one got hurt

A small helicopter had to land at an elementary school. I wish that would happen at our school. There was one time an army helicopter landed on the school's baseball diamonds. I wasn't quite sure why they had to land on school grounds during the middle of the day.

Wow ! thats really scary, at least no one was hurt during all this. The pilot must of been a good one being able to land on a small playground.

Its good that they stoped when they did if they didn't they could have killed many inocent young people but the should have been more weary as to check the helecopter
