Puberty Gone Wild!
Laurel’s shoes flipped a cheerful rhythm that defied her dark mood. As she walked through the halls of Del Norte High, people watched her pass with curious eyes. After double-checking her schedule, Laurel found the biology lab and hurried to claim a seat by the windows. If she had to be indoors, she wanted to at least see outside. The rest of the class filled in slowly. One boy smiled in her direction as he walked to the front of the classroom and she tried to muster up something in return. She hoped he didn’t think it was a grimace.” ( Page 1)
“ I’m really worried about you. Can’t you just tell me?” ( Page 59) Aprilynne Pike’s debut novel, Wings has suspense, love, passion, hatred, confusion, and a bit of romance. It is about Laurel moving from her home and becoming a new student at Del Norte High and everyone thinking she was weird because of her eating habits. When one boy, David, befriended her, some odd things started happening. She noticed a small bump on her back, which her mom told her was “ just puberty”. In time, it grew larger. It was starting to hurt, and Laurel hadn’t told her parents that it had grown almost twice its size in two days. She had begun to get very worried. She loved to wear tank tops, but with this bump, she had to wear T-shirts all the time. The tank tops would be too risky, considering that everyone already thought she was weird. She didn’t need the bump to be revealed on top of that. Within a month, it grew ten times bigger!! When she found out that the bump had gotten that large, she became frantic. She told herself if it wasn’t gone by Monday, she would tell her parents. It was a Saturday. She had never been to a doctor before, and she couldn’t remember the last time she bled. Things were beginning to get very odd……. The darkest, most unknown secrets lie ahead, but you’ll have to read it to find out!
Wings was if not the best, one of the best books I have ever read! I would recommend it to anyone who likes passion, fantasy, a bit of romance, and some unexpected events!! This is my favorite quote because of the suspense, and because it makes you want to read more. “ The bump was gone. But something else had replaced it. Something long and cool.” (Page 45). Definitely a five-star, love-at-1st-read book!!!

This looks like a great book. I really like to read fantasy and adventure books, and this one sounds like it's really good. I want to know what the dark secret is, so I guess I'll go to the bookstore and buy Wings. Thanks for such a great Tween review!
