Tweens save drowning man. Could you?

Tweens save drowning man. Could you? Two 8-year-old boys in a young lifeguards training program rescued a man who was struggling in the ocean off Australia's east coast.

Jake Satherley told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio that he and friend Spencer Jeams saw a middle-aged man having trouble Sunday off Northcliffe beach, in Queensland state.

"We saw him put his hand up and saying, 'help, help,' so we went over to him and pulled him on our board," Satherley said Monday.

The boys are part of the under-14 lifeguard training program at Northcliffe Life Saving Club. Club president David Shields said he'd never seen a rescue like it.

"They really did perform well above their years," he told ABC. "We're just so proud of them and the way they acted instinctively."

Nearly 50,000 Australian children ages 5 to 13 are enrolled in junior life saving programs, according to Surf Life Saving Australia.

All These Stories About Young Kids Saving Lives Is Just Amazing. I Love The Fact That These Kids Are Able To Do These Things Some Kids Would Panic Rather Than Help But These Kids Stay Calm And Do Their Best. That's Just Awesome!

Two 8 year old boys help save a drowning man. Its great to see that kids are learning these things. At such a young age its important they know that the water is dangerous. I hope even more kids join the young life guard program. It might help save many more lives.

I cant even swim and im 14, the man was very lucky, i bet he didnt think two 8 yr old boys would help him out.

I think it is really cool how two young boys could be so brave and save a man's life by putting their training in action. That man should be really thankful for what the boys did.

WOWOW!!!!!! Two 8 year old boys saved a man drowning in the ocean. All because he was doing a lifeguard training program. I don't believe these amazing 8 year olds saved a grown mans life! these kids are amazing they must have really payed attention in the lifeguard program. These kids and the man who was saved definatly have a story to tell.

That is amazing and such a wonderful thing to do. And 50,00 kids ages 5-13 is a LOT of people. But I guess it's important to know that we need to pay attention to our surroundings and that we need to help others in need. And for such a short article, this was very informative.

Good for them they did a great thing for this man. I bet he is happier than ever because he was saved. An amzing thing is the 2 boys were only 8 years old!!

Oh my gosh! If I were the one to save that man I would have acted like that but wow! I mean they are younger then me and that counts for an award and I think that they should have like a trophy or a medal for that.

I think that it's good that kid's saved someone. Most people don't really look up to kids to do a life-saving job, but that will prove to most people that they can.I mean, some where in the world theirs got to be a couple of young green leaves to save a tree.

That guy is lucky he lives there instead of here. I doubt anyone would see and rescue him here. I want to be in that program. They are astounding young kids. They must be so proud.
