Tweens gets visit from Obama

Tweens gets visit from Obama During a visit with tweens at Graham Road Elementary in Falls Church, Va., President Barack Obama announced he'll ask Congress for $1.35 billion to extend an education grant program for states, saying that getting schools right "will shape our future as a nation."

Afterward, he also held a short discussion with sixth-grade students.

"Offering our children an outstanding education is one of our most fundamental — perhaps our most fundamental — obligations as a country," Obama said in brief remarks. "Countries that out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow, and I refuse to let that happen on my watch."

i don't think that making the school more longer would help the kids learn more, because is not even necessary. With that money they can help the economy get better.

That two little girls were happy to see the president... also the president knows about students and schools that's why his making new programs...student have rights to do things.

they should make more things in school like field trip that are fun not boring like a museum or a juvenile justice center and actually school material that won't put us to sleep

I think school is already too long, if anything they should shorten school. Kids don't pay attention in class because it isn't interesting, not because school isn't long enough. Making school longer won't make kids pay attention, it will just make kids fall asleep more.

that is a lot of money he is just giving out and all of that money could help all of our troops in Iraq and i am going to agree with Megan9643on this one

That's pretty fun to get to meet the president. I dont think i would ever really want to though. Im not really into the whole government thing. But, still that would be fun. Hahah, thats something that probubaly a lot of people would like to do, but not me.

No we are in to much det already he's spent more money than all the presidents combined and he's not stoping. He is causing this country to go further in to det. What he needs to do is quit messing around with the NCAA tournament and foucus on his job in the white house. He isn't doing enough in the presidency all he's doing is playing in commercials.

I picked this article because I disagree with Obama. I think that what he is saying is important but I don't think that people will be very happy about school going all year round. I think that he could think of another way to get more education into the kids life's with out taking away there beloved free time.

I know that I cherish my free time away from school. That time is my time to relax and have fun just like any kid. I would be very disturbed and mad if that time was take away from me. That time away from school is needed and you would be mad and sad if it was taken right out from under your nose when it was rightfully yours.

I strongly believe that extending school hours and school days would be very disruptive. I also believe that people would be furious about it and would rebel against our president. I definitely think that Obama could come up with a better idea.

I think the fact that our president wants our schools to have great education programs is awesome. Unlike in the 1800s when many children did not get the chance to go to school. Now with the opprotunity to learn it will hopefuly make our country more educated and responsible.

Obama is the first african american president of the United States. In the 1800's blacks weren't even allowed to vote and most were slaves. It has reformed so much to now being able to be president.
