Tween rides in circles to help Haitians

Tween rides in circles to help Haitians A young British schoolboy has raised more than 100,000 pounds ($160,000) Monday for Haiti's relief effort by cycling round his local park.

Seven-year-old Charlie Simpson was so upset by the images of Haiti's deadly earthquake that he asked his mother if she could help him set up a sponsored bicycle ride around a west London park.

Charlie originally hoped to raise 500 pounds (for UNICEF's Haiti appeal with Sunday's 5-mile (8-kilometer) bike ride, but his Internet page was flooded with donations. He raised nearly 50,000 pounds in a single day. Charlie's story was splashed on the front page of Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper on Monday, and money is still flooding in.

"I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti," he said on his fundraising Web site.

The effort drew the attention of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, with his office Downing Street posting on Twitter: "Amazed by response to the great fundraising efforts of 7 yr old."

The boy's mother Leonora Simpson said she was amazed by the response. "We put it on the Web and that was it, it suddenly took off and we can't believe it," she said.

Thats amazing that boy would do that!! if i was one of those people in Haiti, i would be very greatful of that little boy and i would always remember him.

I think that is a very awesome thing that little boy did. I happy he didn`t just stand there and let someone eles take care of it. He took it into his own hands. He must be very proud of himself. :)

That is so crazy! I bet that he rode his bike around his park alot to have raised 160,000 dollars, and in one day he raised about 90,000 dollars. He seems like a really good kid since he has a heart big enough ot ride his bike around in circles to a unfirtuanate country. I bet that he helped out the people in Haiti so much.

I think it is awesome that he didn't just stand around and let others take care of Haiti. He took care of it by himself. I think it would be hard to ride around my park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is amazing!!!!!! He is only seven too. He did such a great thing. I bet all that money was really helpful for Haiti. He is a very caring little boy. And i didn't think anyone at his age would ever think to do something like that. He made such a big difference in a lot of peoples lives, He did a very good thing!

That's amazing!! Only seven years old and hes trying to help the less-fortunate countries. I think that takes a lot of generosity, time, and patience to raise that much money. What i like the most is he looked at the picture and (BOOM) he instantly wanted to help them.
I admire this young boy. He will have a good life!

A 7 year old boy that raised 160,000 dollars all by himself just by riding his bike in a bike race. That boy must really feel sorry for those in Haiti if he wants to provide food, water, and tents for all the people in need.

You have to be kidding me a seven year old boy raised 160,000 dollors by riding his bike around a park that is soo wierd. I ride bmx and i probably know what he was going threw I mean wow that is amazeing. If I did that and if i tried hard enough I probably could raise that much but no but thats still good that, that kid did that.

That's amazing!!! He's only seven years old, but he did soooo much. It just shows you how much one person can make the BIGGEST difference!

There are millions of seven year olds in this world but only one child named Charlie Simpson took it upon himself to make a difference. Undoubtedly, Charlie is an amazing and special young boy. Furthermore, he raised 100,000 pounds which is unbelievable. You wouldn't expect a seven year old to be able to do that! Most seven year olds don't care about worldly terrors. However, Charlie does care. Which is why he requested that his mom help him with this wonderful cause. I'm sure that it helped the Haitians, who desperately needed a boost. In addition, they must have been very grateful for the love and support they received from Charlie. I believe that more people should follow in Charlie's footsteps.
