Turtle in Paradise
Turtle in Paradise

Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer Holm is an adorable tale of a "spunky" eleven year old named Turtle who goes to live with her wild cousins and stressed aunt in Key West.
It is 1935 and Turtle's world is about to change. She gets a job working at the marina and helps take care of an old woman she bonds with. Things change a lot for Turtle, but then they change even more when she finds a pirate map. She enlists the help of her cousins and together they find over twenty thousand gold coins buried off the coast.
I did enjoy this novel, even though plot and characterization were atrocious. The voice made it seem as though this writer had difficulty throughout the novel.
The main character, Turtle, is eleven. But I have never met an eleven year old who thinks, speaks or behaves like Turtle. Turtle acts like she is five. It was said that she is a "tough tomboy" but in fact she is just stupid and immature just like the plot.
The idea that they find the pirate treasure map inside a water-damaged- and termite-infestested piano doesn't make any sense. Any ink on the paper would have disintigrated and been unreadable after decades. Turtle would not have been able to find jack – let alone $20,000 in gold. I don't mind suspending disbelief for baby stories, but to have to do that for a preteen novel is inexcusable.
1 thumb down.

I have heard of this book before and it sounds very intresting. Although, I am not much of a reader myself, I do enjoy the books I read. I've read the Twilight series and The Hunger Games trilogy and thought they were really good. My mom urges me to read the Harry Potter series though, I won't.
Well I think it sounds great and if you are not a kid you should not be judging this. You do not have to be like that. Spunky is exactly the word I use to describe myself. My parents say I act like a 2-5 year old. So in some ways I can relate to Turtle. I will have to read this it sounds really good. Good job Jennifer L. Holm
If you have not read this then you have a treat in store. It's a very wonderful book. It has a great use of vocabulary. I wish I had the book so I could read it every day!
Wow, I'm so glad to hear this. I'm actually kind of disappointed. I've been looking at the book for a while and thinking about reading it. I even almost bought it once. from the summary on the back, it sounds really good. But this makes me not want to read it at all. I like fiction books, but stuff like pirate maps and treasure hunts is just immature, childish, and very unrealistic. Now I won't have to spend my time and money (if I bought it) on a terrible book.
I have read this book and it is amazing. Turtle in Paradise is a book that I would read again. It is a quick and easy book. Jennifer Holm creates a world that you get lost in. Other great books by Jennifer Holm is Oliva's Ocean, and The Starfish of the Pacific. They are great, and I an convinced that you will love them as much as I did.
fiction: It is spectacular that there is a firm and hard opinion already set on the book before any of the readers of the book review even get to read it. This would make it very interesting to form contradicting opinions after the book has been read. However, I believe that the way the book was described as well as the word choice used was very rude to the readers and the author. The publisher of the review made it seem as if they were better and could write better than the author. The publisher was very pompous and made it seem as if the book had no use in reading. After reading other comments by other users, I have agreed that I would like to set my own opinion on this book because this book, too, sounds like a book that I would personally enjoy. Besides, it is not always the "hard-text" that makes a book good but the intellectual deposition received from the book once read.
This book was very good!!! I wish our reading class would have read this book together but the guys may not like. This book is a good book to dicuss how you feel and what you hought about it. I rate it a four and a half!!!
i really like this book it has alot of good events happening. it isnt boring like alot of the other books.this book is awesome. i reccomend it.
I liked this book. It wasn't my favorite book ever, but I wouldn't say I didn't like it because it was good. I got this book as a gift while I was on a week vacation, and I finished it by the end of the trip! It has drama and humor and is actually quite interesting and engaging. The end was horrible and left my mad because you didn't know what was going to happen to anyone and the problem the book was just immediately solved, the mom came back, you learned a little more but the book just ended. I think it would be fun to write a new ending. But overall the book was ok.
This sounds like a really good book. I want to read it so bad. The part when she finds the pirate map sounds very interesting.
