Student wins car for good grades

Student wins car for good grades A Las Vegas high school senior has won a new car for having good grades and no unexcused absences.

Clark County school officials say 18-year-old Kenneth Gonzalez won a Honda Fit worth about $17,500 through a raffle among the eligible students.

The car was awarded on the last day of school. To be eligible, students needed at least a 3.7 GPA and no unexcused misses from class.

Six seniors were also awarded about $8,000 in scholarships.

School officials say the prizes are one way to keep kids from slacking off during their final semester.

This is what teachers need to do even if your in pre-school or 1st grade they should reward you but if i won a car than i would get no honda i would get a lamorghini i think thats how you speel it even though they are $100,250 cheap right :-)

This is a great way to keep seniors from slacking in their last year. This is operant condtioning and the reward is a positive reinforcement. I know i would'nt miss school for the chance of a new car. This could save money to go towards college, and help parents with finances. It also gives students hope who cannot afford a car but have great academic scores and perfect attendance.

That's really cool I wonder what car they get to win. I wish I was not late to school and I wish that I was not Late to school or else I would get detention .

that is cool but their doing that in lakeland every year but that is nice and cool the color is a good color for the car.

I think it would be unbelievable to win a car for doing well in school and going to class every day. If they offered this idea to teenagers here I think it would be a really good incentive to work hard and finish school. I hope these teenagers in Las Vegas realize how lucky they are to be offered this incentive. I wonder if they will ever offer something like that here where we live.

I think that is cool that a kid got good grades and got a car. That is could for the student so they can o to school now by thereselfs.

I don’t think students should be given a new car just for good grades that’s not right! It’s not fair to the rest of the students that worked their butts the whole year and what did they get nothing. I believe that should be the parents or the student’s responsibility to get a car for them. Its not that hard to get good grades now a days. I don’t agree with this at all.

i think that they shouldn't hand out cars for good grades because first they could of cheated on the test to win the new car and the car is $17,500.

This article reminds me of the moment when Jerry and Benny got awarded for coming to school everyday, and being in class on time daily. Because Jerry and Benny had never missed school for 5 years, the principal decided to take them to Spain and Paris. In addition to the trip the school district awarded the two teenagers giving them $20,000. Jerry and Berry decided to make a school in Colombia and donate the rest of the money left to people in need.

A car for getting good grades is so cool, but I don't think it's a good idea. students can cheat in tests and quizzes just to win a car. Maybe Kenneth Gonzalez cheated in a test to get that car, you don't know. if I was a student in that school I would study for a test and at the same time have something to cheat on. At the same time I think it encourages students to get good grades and care for your grades. But then the students will do it for the car, not for themselves. if you see that car and say, " That car is beautiful," and then a teacher comes and says, " if you get good grades you can win it." Would you get good grades for yourself, or good grades for the car?
