Student can wear nose stud in school
A North Carolina high school student can wear the nose piercing that's part of her religious faith under the terms of a legal settlement announced Monday.
Clayton High School freshman Ariana Iacono was suspended last fall after showing up for class with a tiny stud in her nose, which she says reflects her beliefs as a member of the Church of Body Modification.
The school dress code prohibits facial piercings, but in October, a federal judge ruled that Iacono should be allowed to return to school, piercing and all. She's been attending class since that decision, pending a resolution of the case.
Under the terms of the resolution, Iacono can wear the nose stud as long as she remains a member of the Church of Body Modification, a little-known religious group that claims about 3,500 adherents nationwide and considers practices like tattooing and body piercing to be elements of spiritual practice.
Her disciplinary record will also be wiped clean, and she'll be allowed to retake an honors science class she missed during her lengthy suspension in the fall. The district also has to pay $15,000 in attorney fees and court costs.

I think that it is good that she went back to school. Piercings let students express theirselves. Schools should allow all religous expressions that students believe. Schools need to stop worrying about students' appearence and start worrying more about their education.
I think it's good that she can go to school now. Just over a small little piercing. It's her face, she should e allowed to do whatever she wants to it. Same thing with tattoos, someone shouldn't be judged or kicked out of school because they have a tattoo. It might mean something to them, or as in this case, it's for a religious group she participates in.
That is so stupid, just because you have a tiny stud in you nose doesn't mean that you have to be suspended from school. It's not like it's bothering anyone else. It's just a nose piercing, it's like your ears but on your nose.
I think that this is really crazy. Now and days i see alot of teens with piercing and tatoos. That shouldnt mean that they are not allowed to tend school. Just because you have body markings you need an education to. And its their body so they should be allowed to do whatever they want to with it.
Teenagers are allow to get piercings were ever they want because is their life. Nobody can tell them nothing. Their is a lot of people that have piercings. Piercings are allow for everyone not just kids, or teenagers, adults have some too. Why would they make piercings if their gonna make a girl be part of something just so she can wear the piercing in her nose?
Teenagers are young and we should be allowed to express ourselves freely.
This is quite disturbing that schools can boss us around and send us to court for a little nose stud.
I disagree with this school. Society is crazy.
I believe this is crazy! Why on earth would a school suspend a girl for wearing a nose ring?! This should not give schools the right to suspend people for wearing facial piercings. Wearing piercings is again another way of expressing a person, or in this case beliefs. If this is her religion, then she should be allowed to wear it without getting suspended for it.
I personally believe that you should be allowed to have what you want pierced and it still be okay to wear into a school. If the person want to express there self or even religion like this girl they should have the right to. Piercings are not that bad, unlike clothes that shouldn't be allowed to be worn to school Piercings don't really have a effect on people.
The student should have been able to wear her nose ring in the first place. No harm is done in being fashionable. Most schools want to be vapid, boring, and dull when it comes to someones fashion, but Ariana was just being herself. Plus, it was part of her religion, and that school, or any school for that matter, cannot tell her to do something that is against her religion. There are so many crazy body modifications that one can do to his/her body, but wearing a little nose stud is perfectly fine, in my opinion. What the school did was unnecessary, and students should be able to wear piercings.
I think that the girl had the right to have a piercing on her nose because it's her body and she's allow to do anything with it, as long it is okay with her parents.
