Spooky! Dentist offers to buy back Halloween candy

Spooky! Dentist offers to buy back Halloween can An Ohio dentist is offering to buy kids' trick-or-treating booty this Halloween, and he's even throwing in a toothbrush to sweeten the deal.

Dentist Craig Callen and his associates are offering kids $1 per pound of candy they bring in, with a 5-pound limit per child. The dentists are also holding a drawing for two children's bikes.

Callen says brushing teeth and visiting a dentist are good preventive measures, but doing away with excess sweets would give teeth a healthy boost.

Callen says candy can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain and can be especially damaging to children's braces.

I think this is a a very smart idea to keep not only children's teeth, but also their bodies healthy. After Halloween, children have a ton of candy laying around and they eat it just because it is there. As the dentist says this causes hyperactivity and is terrible for children's teeth. By paying kids for their candy, it is not only good for their health, but it also teaches them about choices and responsibility to keep their bodies healthy. The children are not getting a lot of money so I believe this teaches them more about the issue of healthy choices rather than it being just about getting money. This dentist is doing the right thing to help raise awareness of the dangers of eating too much candy.

I think it is a cute attempt the doctor is making to help protect his patients teeth. It is a cheesy way to show he cares and also to have fun. I wonder what he is goint to do with all his candy.

When you think of Halloween, you think of one word. That word is CANDY! Kids love candy and they do realize that is unhealthy and do not need to be constantly reminded! The dentist needs to advise the kids about the dangers of eating candy, but has no right to take kids candy! Also when kids have braces they know not to eat a bunch of junk food, but doesn't mean they can't have it once awhile! Kids are kids and they will eat whatever they want!

Its nice that the dentist is willing to buy the candy from kids, but I wouldn't give mine away for lousy dollar! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I work hard to get my candy only to give it away for a couple bucks! I know I will brush my teeth every morning and night, so I don't worry too much about my teeth.

I ate candy corn before and its but i really did not like it. but my cousin eat them. get them at the store every time and ever day my brother does to.

I understand Halloween candy is not at all good for you and dentists' don't encourage eating too much of it, but seriously? Taking children's candy on Halloween? And charging money for it! What if less fortunate families needed the money and had to take the candy away from their children just to make a couple of dollars! .... Think about it, even if it may damage children's braces, the children should be more conscious about their braces and the dentists' should be more reasonable about their actions.

That is so funny, a dentist buying candy. I like the idea because it can help kids with there weight and it saves there poor teeth. I have had one cavity and it hurt, I defiantly don’t want another. If what Dentist Craig Callen is doing helps then continue to do so and spread the word for others to do it to. I hope this will soon spread all over the world.

I don't see the big deal with this. Everybody can enjoy a couple sweets in life and to tip it off, he gives you a free toothbrush with it. It is a win-win situation. Dentist gives you candy, you get a tooth brush. If you asked any dentist if he has ever had sweets, he would say yes. It's not that bad if he did it. So why cant you?

I think its a great idea of the dentist buying Halloween candy ! it a great way for kids to not have cavites. And keep a little of their candy.

I think there should be more than 1$ per pound. This ohio dentist is being a rip off. But to sweeten the deal with a new toothbrush, it makes up for the rip off.
