"Spider Dan" climbs San Francisco skyscraper

"Spider Dan" climbs San Francisco skyscraper A man scaled the exterior of a 58-story downtown skyscraper Monday and unfurled an American flag at the top.

The man was veteran skyscraper climber Dan Goodwin. The 54-year-old Lake Tahoe resident's other climbing credits include Chicago's Sears Tower.

Goodwin used suction cups but no ropes to scale Millennium Tower, a 645-foot residential building overlooking San Francisco Bay. He ignored orders to stop climbing, police said.

Goodwin was too high to reach by the time firefighters arrived at the building, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Goodwin reached the top just before 5:30 p.m., about three hours after he began. He affixed an American flag to the building before surrendering to waiting authorities.

In a statement posted on his website, Goodwin said he climbed the building to call attention to what he described as the ongoing vulnerability of skyscrapers to terrorist attacks.

He also said he wanted to inspire patients battling cancer, which he said he overcame to continue climbing.

That is really cool. I'm scared of heights to that is out of my rang. If i wasn't scared I would probably be doing the same as Dan Goodwin, he inspired a lot of people to battle cancer.

I think this article is so amazing but also so scary because the tower is so high. He is so brave. He used suction cup, not ropes? he is a dare devil i would never do that ever it just seems so scary

I think this article is so amazing but also so scary because the towers is so height. He is so brave. He used suction cup not ropes? Oh my god, this is so insane. I think this is so hard to do this for everyone but I think it will be really fun to do if we are really good at it like Dan Goodwin so we can climb every skyscraper. I like his idea that he did it for terrorist attack. Also, I like that he put the flag of American at the top and I like that he wanted to inspire patients battling cancer.

Wow!!!! that is so cool!!! He is so brave to climb a freaking a skyscraper that is 58 stories high. I would never have the courage to do that.

This article is not very good. It does not have very much info about the guy. It tells why but it could tell a little more why he wanted to do it. It also doesn't say why he picked that building to climb either.

I would never climb a sky scraper even if some one paid me lots of money.Hes brave to climb it with no rope and used suction cups.

Wow I cant believe that he had the guts to climb a skyscraper too the top and put an American flag on the top. what happened if he fell or looked down, man I could have never done that. Kudos to him.

I've seen the video of ''Spider Dan'' on You-Tube and I thought it was pretty amazing for a man to climb the San Fransisco Skyscraper because I am pretty scared of heights and I don't think I could have ever done what he has if I were him. I probably would have surrendered to the police before even reaching more than eight feet.

That is pretty cool and nice of him to say that. The police are jerks though,I mean if I was a cop I would let
him inspire.

Why would any one would be climbing on the edge of a skyscraper!!I would be scary if i climb on the edge of the skyscraper !!!!!!!!!! wouldn't it !!!!!!!! :) :) :)
