See Pompeii, thanks to Google
Internet users can now walk the streets of Pompeii without dusting up their shoes with the volcanic ash that buried the Roman city nearly 2,000 ago.
Italy's Culture Ministry said Thursday it had worked with Google to add to the Street View application images of the avenues, villas, temples and theaters of the ancient town.
The application allows Internet users to view panoramic street-level pictures of more than 100 cities around the world.
Pompeii was destroyed in A.D. 79 by a cataclysmic eruption of Mount Vesuvius that killed thousands of people and buried the city in 20 feet (six meters) of volcanic ash.
But the ash also helped preserve Pompeii's treasures, providing precious information about what life was like in the ancient world.

The program on Google that allows people to see what Pompeii used to look like in a panoramic view is amazing. Having been to Pompeii myself, I have seen the ruins and the city as it looks right now. I was amazed to see how much of the city was left from the volcano. Before I visited, I did not expect there to be as much left as there was. However, being able to see what it once looked like in a three dimensional view is great. It lets me compare the city from the past to the present.
I thought they spelled it pompii,I guss not, anyway I saw a show called Doctor Who who also went to this time at the exact moment who saved them from this valcano,Cool huh.
That was a bad disaster. Maybe the people there got the volcano really mad and he exploded because of that. But this Google thing sounds really cool. And kinda creepy. Now thanks to Google putting cameras everywhere, we can see a town of ashes! I'm not normally interested in this kind of stuff but this was cool.
for vesuvius, it is interesing. naples is in 300 mile of it. And with 3000000 it will keel a lot of people more than tambora which killed 92000people. That's sooooo cool. It's like traveling back in time. I like how it would feel like your actually there and your actually part of history.

The Mt.Vesuvius was erupted and the people of Pompeii died in the ash of the erupt and all the people had turned into a body cast and stayed like that for their lives. And that happen in A.D. 79
incredible i must say what they have done. a 2000 year old roman city that was buried in the volcanic ash is now visible like a city today. this can help us in so many ways, and i hope we learn very much.
That is such an amazing program, I never thought that I would ever see Pompeii. I learned about it in 6th grade. How did google get pictures of pompeii? If it was destroyed thousands of years ago then how could they do that?
That is such an amazing program. I never thought that I would ever see Pompeii, wicked cool! It looks very clear and it feels like I'm in a helicopter above the volcano. I know that Pompeii was covered completely with ash from the volcano and that the city was abandoned. I think that this program will make kids see places that they couldn't even imagine.
I think this sounds like an amazing program. I love to learn about ancient cities and rulers and now i can walk through the streets of one.
