City gets big Valentine's Day gift: an elephant
The San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park says the male African elephant was born around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Park spokeswoman Yadira (Yah-DEER'-uh) Galindo says visitors camping at the zoo were awakened by elephants trumpeting — a common behavior when a calf is born. The females of the herd circled the 224-pound calf to protect it.
Galindo says the calf is able to stand and nurse and is doing well Tuesday.
The calf hasn't been named yet. His mother is a 20-year-old called Ndlulamitsi (Eh-DOO'-luh-MIHT'-see), which means "taller than trees." His father is Mabhulane (Mah-boo-LAH'-nee).
The calf is the sixth born into a herd that was imported from Swaziland in 2003. The herd has now grown to 13.

That zoo must have a ton of elephants if that is the sixth baby. Elephants must be the mane part of the zoo. I hop the baby gets every thing it needs to be a grate adult. I hop all the people that work at the zoo have a lot of extra time because they will need to keep a close eye on the baby.

I like San Diego. It's exciting that they got a baby elephant.I diden't know that elephants trumpet when a baby elephant is born. That's a heavy baby.(224 lbs).
He's so cute, all trumpeting and happy and prancing around and everything! Awwww! He's waving his trunk around like- "Hello! Helloooo! Hi there! Hi! Hello!" All cheery and peerky and such! It's so cute!!!
