Running on a full stomach:
Barton College was the site of an unusual, but effective, fundraiser on Wednesday known as Barton College/Dick's Hot Dog Stand Dash. Some 30 Barton students donated $10 each for the chance to race on foot from the Centennial Alumni Bell Tower on campus to Dick's Hot Dog Stand on Nash Street, a distance of approximately 1 mile, where they were each given three halved hot dogs to eat and then race back to the bell tower.
The runners were assisted and guided along the entire race course by the Wilson Police Department.
The event was part of the Stop Hunger Now program that has been going on at the college all year long. The idea came from a similar Krispy Creme Challenge held earlier in Raleigh.
The race winner was Corey Winner, a senior from Marie Stein, Ohio, and also a member of the Barton cross country team.
Winner said eating the hot dogs was the biggest problem he faced "because I'm not a hot dog fan and don't like mustard. But it was definitely fun and one of the most enjoyable things I've done this semester."
All those who started the race completed the course and ate their hot dogs, but surprisingly no one got sick or suffered serious problems caused by mixing the two, although Barton SGA president Jeremy Lowe joked with the crowd afterwards: "I know some of you might not feel as good as others."
The Stop Hunger Now campaign at Barton has raised more than $6,000 this year with the funds to be used to send food to schools and orphanages in Third World countries and will culminate Wednesday when 24,000 meals will be packed on campus for delivery.

Wow, did they throw up? I can't eat before i go running, it would make me feel sick. I once went out to lunch & right from the restaurant to cross country practice, and it was the worst idea ever! I don't know how i didn't throw up, but it felt horrible! So i feel bad for these guys, and one of them won. But i guess it's pretty cool they can run a race after eating lots of food.
Wow. I can't believe that a hot-dog-eating-then-run contest was able to raise so much money. I am glad that theses college students are so concerned with world issues. I hope that they keep doing this and earn more money to help feed the world!
Running when your stomach is full is not a very good idea. You should probably at least wait 30 minutes to run after you get done eating. I don't think that it is very smart to run with a full stomach because there is a chance that you might throw up, and that would not be good at all.
Wouldn't you throw up with a full stomach? I think it would be fun to run for a good cause- maybe just a little painful though.
