Researchers seek bones of Mona Lisa

Researchers seek bones of Mona Lisa Italian researchers have announced a plan to dig up bones in a Florence convent in hopes of identifying the remains of a Renaissance woman long believed to be the model for the Mona Lisa.

The researchers hope that the project can help answer some of the enduring mysteries surrounding Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, including whether the woman, Lisa Gherardini, was indeed the model.

They launched their project in Florence Tuesday.

Project leader Silvano Vinceti said the excavations in the Convent of St. Ursula, in central Florence, are scheduled to begin at the end of April.

Lisa Gherardini was the wife of a rich silk merchant named Francesco del Giocondo. Tradition has long linked her to the painting, which in Italian is known as "La Gioconda."

This could be very interesting. I think a large controversy could develop over this topic. No matter what happens, I think they will make money off of this project. I think many people will support it because they want to find the answer to the mystery. I also think that this could raise the value and the attention put on the painting.

Sounds pretty interesting, but I don't see the point here. What is the point of wasting time and money to go dig up bones? Bones wont tell you who she is. They didn't collect DNA samples and enter them into a computer which identifies them, way back in those stone ages. I think the Da Vinci code is just a myth, and not worth wasting time and money to decode.

Whoa that is amazing! We had to draw Mona Lisa when I was in fifth grade in art! I love Mona Lisa! My art had this pose called the Mona Lisa which is how she is painted in the pictures of her!

WOW WHOA,Well That's kind of weird " La Gioconda" Is a really good drawing. I myself like to draw. it's one of my hobbies! I did not know that Lisa Gherardini was the wife of a rich person!

This is the best painting of Mona Lisa, artist is Leonardo de Vinche. He did a good job with this painting. The mona lisa is not really that big, like some people thought it would be.

I believe that this is a challenging project, but if they do find the bones for Mona Lisa then maybe they can feature it in museums and create a new artifact in tribute to The Mona Lisa.

i don't get it why is it so important to find the Mona Lisa bones if it was only a Leonardo Davin's art out of all of the drawings they like to find more about that one

why do they want to find Mona Lisa's bones . is Mona Lisa even a real person .

I always thought the Mona Lisa was just a character of the painters mind. But maybe not. If she is real I think they should leave her 'bones' alone because the whole painting is history and to dig or find or whatever is almost like disturbing the history of the painting...

Wow.That is so weird. They find the bones of Mona Lisa from like about 400 years ago. That is weird. I give them good luck, but I personally think they aren't her because they would be fallen apart.
