OMG! Kids send 2,000 txts per month R u kidding me? Americans punched out more than 110 billion text messages last year, double the number in the previous year and growing, as the shorthand communication becomes a popular alternative to cell phone calls.

"If teens are a leader for America, then we are moving to a text-based communication system. For them, there is less interest in talking," said Amanda Lenhart, senior research specialist at the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

Her research found the average teen currently sends more than 2,000 text messages per month. About two-thirds of all teens use text messaging, mostly due to its simplicity as well as the privacy of being able to communicate without being overheard.

Lenhart predicted that texting would continue to grow as parents begin using it as an easy way to reach their kids.

2,000 per month! That is absolutely crazy! I don't text nearly that much. I can't believe kids are actually wasting their time on these phones. Where will that get us in life? Nowhere, get off your cellphone and go hang with a friend, instead of chatting with them by text messages.

I honestly think I send about 2,000 texts a week, and I'm not even exaggerating. Sadly, this is what communication is coming to. In a way, I hate it. Sometimes, I want to call someone on the phone, or actually talk in person. It makes me nervous thinking that we're actually degrading verbal communication. It's now harder to talk to people in person than it is to talk to people behind a keyboard. I don't think that my generation will know how to communicate properly when we're older. I think it needs to stop, we're the future, we need decent communication skills. We can't hide behind a cell phone our entire lives.

I think that the girl should limit her texting to others and friends. If she doesn't her mom or dad shouldn't let her text or take away her phone from her.

2,000!.....The highest i ever got in text's was 1,655 . I don't really text that much unless I'm bored and that doesn't happen much but now that i have read this i might make it into a goal to get over 2,000 text messages in a month.

That is amazing 110 million texts in one moth . Well yeah, we will text a lot, but I think that parents should cut there kids text.

Texting is easier than typing. Cell phones are also portable. More kids want cell phones so that they can chat with there friends without being face to face. I text all the time, except in school.

i LOVE texting, i think its an eays & great way to talk to friends & family. Kids getting so obessed & txting non-stop isnt good. & the reason it has grown is bc now a days, everyone is getting into itt. Bc its so much easier.
