Olympics' Lindsey Vonn is now a star
A camera caught Lindsey Vonn dabbing on makeup minutes after becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic downhill.
Looking up, she realized the scene was being relayed to a giant videoboard near the finish area. She playfully scrunched up her features and said, "Oh, come on."
Get ready for plenty of close-ups, Lindsey. The scrutiny is not going away.
"I got the gold medal that I came here to get. And now I'm just going to attack every day, with no regrets and no fear," said Vonn, a 25-year-old who lives and trains in Vail, Colo. "And, I mean, I'm just happy with one. Anything else from here on out is a bonus."
Vonn won the downhill in 1 minute, 44.19 seconds — more than a half-second quicker than anyone else — to collect her first career Olympic medal. She combined with Julia Mancuso to give the United States its first 1-2 finish in an Olympic Alpine event since 1984. Elisabeth Goergl of Austria was third, nearly 1½ seconds behind Vonn.
Vonn knows disappointment all too well. At her second Olympics, four years ago in Italy, she lost control during a downhill training run at more than 50 mph and wound up in the hospital with a battered back. Less than 48 hours later, she was back on skis and finished eighth in the downhill.
She sees that as a pivotal moment, and it preceded her big breakthroughs, including the last two World Cup overall titles and two world championship golds last year.
"She's a fighter," U.S. Ski Team women's coach Jim Tracy said. "I knew 100 percent, whether she was going to be sore or not, she was going to be ready to race 100 percent."

That is very cool! I'm glad she won that award. I don't even know how to ski. I never ski before. I would like to learn how to ski one day. I wonder how it feels to ski.
So it's true! Privacy is something that famous people lack. I mean really. Someone is made a fool for trying to look good on WORLD television? That is just not right. Everyone has some imperfection that they may be embarrassed about and they are shunned for trying to cover it up. That is just wrong.
It's cool that she got a gold medal. If I ever went to the Olympics I'd go for swimming but for the winter Olympics well I wouldn't want to do anything in the winter Olympics. Her time was great i bet she was so happy. I don't think we need to know when she was putting on makeup, I mean does it really matter. I think almost everyone wears makeup.
that is the dumbest thing ever. i hate when people make fun of other people for doing that. atleast she didnt give up in italy though.
I think she is an amazing girl for being the first American women to win the downhill events.She must be really happy that she won this event.Her name will must likely be going down in history.
I don't get why people do things like that to people. It just seems unnecessary to me that you would put a person putting on make-up, up on a giant video-board. It just isn't right that people would do that. I think that Lindsay had the right to sue the person who did that because it was just so disrespectful. She deserves to say something to the person who put her up on the video-board.
Lindsey is the best down hill skiier in the world! She can go so quickly down hill and makes it look so easy. when I was 2 I started to ski down hill and I still ski alot every winter. I watched her every time she was on t.v. and me and my friend would talk about her a lot at school! From the first time I saw her ski so quickly I knew she was going to win the shinny gold medal. She is so cool!!!!!!!! She can win the olympics again if she wanted to do it again! My family and I went to Colorado skiing and I sometimes would watch the people go skiing but even when wego to W.I. none of them were as good as her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh Lindsey Vonn is amazing! It's crazy how good of a skiier she is. She's awesome! I cross country ski, but downhill looks so much harder... it's amazing that someone can ski that well.
