Old show will include new dogs
His name is Alchemy — a sleek Irish red and white setter, high-energy but gentle. Next week, he'll represent one of three new breeds making their debut at the Westminster Kennel Club's world-class dog show alongside the perennial Labrador retriever.
The two other breeds entering the annual show for the first time are herding dogs — the Pyrenean shepherd and the Norwegian buhund.
The so-called Pyr shep, native to the mountains of southern France, has guarded sheep since medieval times. Its expressive, intelligent eyes guide a fuzzy, sturdy body in action. The breed comes in two varieties — rough- and smooth-coated. Hundreds of them lost their lives in World War I, searching for wounded men or as couriers or guard dogs.
And the loyal and fun-loving buhund — either black or cream-colored, with a curly tail — also has existed for centuries, sailing on Viking ships and working in the Norwegian countryside.
Worldwide, more than 400 breeds of dogs are recognized. Although the three new breeds in this year's show have long been accepted abroad, it took this long for them to receive AKC recognition in this country.
The Labrador retriever was named the top dog in the United States on Wednesday by the American Kennel Club, followed by the German shepherd, the Yorkshire terrier and the golden retriever. The ranking is based on the number of registrations for the breed with the AKC in 2009; the lab is most popular in Los Angeles.

I have two dogs a greyhound and a black lab, kyle and ollie, kyle turns nine feb. 6. ollie is a happy healthy 2 year old. if I could make a new breed it would be a mix between an australian sheperd and a black lab.
My favorite dog is the German Shepherd because they are fun, loving, sweet, beautiful, protective, and love to play a lot and be your best friend. I have 9 dogs but now I recently had to give my German Shepherd away because I moved, it was really sad and I was very upset. I have 4 German Shepherds, 1 Chihuahua, 1 American Pit Bull Terrier, and the other 2 are mixed breeds. I love dogs so much, German Shepherds are the best, they're so cute.

I think that the pyrenean shepherd dogs are heroes and not just because they can get runaway sheep. I mean most dogs if trained can do that. I think they're heroes because many of that breed lost their lives in World War I.

in many of them. I have this puppy named Marley and I wonder if he could do that kind
of stuff. Or I wonder if my teacher's dogs can do that kind of stuff. Marley could do
stuff like those dogs if we train him well. I also wonder if Mrs. Anzalone's dogs, Nico and Mya, could do that. Those dogs must haved been trained so hard to do all that work.I love dogs. They are really cute and when you train them they really listen to you. They are like a best friend. I used to have 2 dogs, wermerimers. I loved them so much. We had to give one away because it had a tumor but he is fine now, he was addopted back out to another LOVING family. The other one my step dad took when my parents got a divorse.

I think that these dogs are heroes. Not just because they can get runaway sheep. I mean most dogs if trained can do that. But I think they're heroes because most of them lost there lives in world war I. They lost there lives because they went to find wounded or dead soldiers so they can send them back to there’re families if dead. Or get them to recover if there badly injured. So yea he deserved it for him (even thought he didn’t do anything) and his breed.
