Obama belts out blues with Stones' Mick Jagger
The president just couldn't say no: Mick Jagger held out a mic almost by way of command, and soon Barack Obama was belting out the blues with the best of them.
The East Room of the White House was transformed into an intimate blues club on Tuesday night for a concert featuring blues all-stars of the past, present and future — and the president himself.
The surprise performance by Obama came at the end of the playlist when the blues ensemble was singing "Sweet Home Chicago," the blues anthem of Obama's home town.
Buddy Guy prodded the president, saying he'd heard that the president sang part of an Al Green tune recently, and adding, "You gotta keep it up."
Then Jagger handed over the mic, and Obama seemed compelled to comply.
"Come on, baby don't you want to go," the president sang out twice, handing off the mic to B.B. King momentarily, and then taking it back to tack on "Sweet Home Chicago" at the end.
That was how Obama ended the night.
This was how he began it: Obama said sometimes there are downsides to being the president. You can't just go for a walk, for example.
And then there are the times that more than make up for all those frustrations, he said, like Tuesday night, when Jagger, King, Jeff Beck and other musical giants came by the house to sing the blues.
"I guess things even out a little bit," Obama joked at the start of a rollicking East Room concert that was electrified by Jagger and the rest.
"This music speaks to something universal," Obama declared. "No one goes through life without both joy and pain, triumph and sorrow. The blues gets all of that, sometimes with just one lyric or one note.

I didn't know the president could sing that good. I think its cool that the president had all those singers come to the White House, and do a concert.
It's crazy that a leader such as Obama can sing realy well and I dont know why people are so conterd like that.
He is a vary good singer infact.
President Obama was lucky enough to harmonize with Mick Jagger, who is one of my heros. To sing with Mick would be a dream come true. Maybe I will get to sing with Mick at some point.
I was surprised about the number of people who were upset about this. While the President’s job is to serve the nation, I believe that everyone deserves a break once in a while. I cannot even begin to imagine how stressful Obama’s job must be, especially in a time of economic hardship. If he can do something to clear his head and relieve stress once in a while, then well for him. Being calm will allow Obama to do a better job leading the country.
He is crazy I can not believe he would sing or as you say "belted it out" to an enormous crowd and completely being a show off and even if he was asked I mean seriously he will some day do that and let the tomatos come cause I'm sure that they'll have them.
This shows how Barack Obama is a great guy. Aside from all the work and pressure he has on his sholders he still knows how to have fun. I think this is a great quality a president should have, but I feel pretty bad that there are certain little thing he can't enjoy in life like us citizens. President Barack Obama looks like a cool guy and an interesting person.
He is the first president that I have heard sing songs like it ain't nothing. He can actually sing and doesn't mind showing his talent to people all over the world
Fact: Obama sang the blues in the white house with Mick Jagger. He also said that a president usually can't just go for a walk. Thats what I learned.
i think Obama is really a kind of one of the coo-less presidents of the world i i would like too be a a president of the untied states of America.
this just goes to show you that obama has more talent than we know he is defiantly a talented president and now we all know.
